Hi all
does anyone recognise this type/style of dish. It has faded green and red enamels,simple design. Milky glaze.
is it kitchen Ming ? Or other.

I don't know. Could it be a shipwreck piece? The mark looks like those found on bleu de hue but clearly it isn't that!

Based on overall composition, base and foot trimming probably Ming 16/17th century …
Such pieces were made in large numbers, predominantly for export to South East Asia, Indonesia and especially Japan, where they were very popular …
I would agree with Julia @julia in that this is either a shipwreck or, possibly, a tomb/ burial piece.

OMO, this is a red and green plate from 19th century, Dehua kiln. It has creamy glaze. Most possibly, the enamel has been affected by see water. This plate has a blue mark '刘什' (Liu Shi) on the base, which could be the shop or the maker and very common on Fujian kiln porcelain ware from 19th century. 刘 Liu is a simplified Chinese character. Hope this helps.

Hi Richard, Yaqin,
I agree with Ming1449. Based on the crudeness of the bowl, I'm going to lean towards this being a Ming export piece for the southeast Asian market. Possibly a Swatow bowl and most likely a shipwreck cargo piece. Tomb moisture wouldn't erase the enameling to the degree we see on this bowl. My best guess is that this spent a few hundred years under the South China Sea.
I haven't handled enough Swatow wares to say for sure, but that's what it looks like to me. However, I can't speak to the shop mark on the base because, again, I haven't handled many Swatow wares to rule this bowl in or out based on the mark in underglaze blue.
I'd love to hear what Peter thinks about it. We might now hear from him until he is back from vacation.
