Hello,
I'm picking these up early next week... I'm pretty excited about them. I can't find any fakes with the same skin tones as the originals like these. What do you guys think? (fingers firmly crossed)... 3 of them have Fuijan Hui Guan marks.. the other I don't know.
@thomasumjohnson good the size is also correct I believe they are correct and done by Fu Sheng Xing Zao. The three you already know the Shop mark.
Here is mine for comparison
Thanks Brian,
Did you see this with the same marks.
why so high? It also doesn't look like any of the other Fu Sheng Xing Zao works I've found (all have a glossy face, not the life like matte skin tones on the ones I bought or the other Guanyin example).
I've shown them to someone who vaguely thinks they are post republic, maybe around 1970. I came across Zeng Longsheng, a master figurine maker from the post republic period, who sells for a lot.
Below are all 8 of the ones I bought, with photos of other factory marks..
Someone is trying to sell a very similar (but not as fine) version of Li Tieguai on ebay (with a different mark - Fujian as some of the of the others in the collection. Not sure it has the same unique skin tones from the photos. Perhaps the skin tones glazing was a particular method from the 20th century?
According to Gotheborg concerning the Fujian Guild (which they are referring to as republic period)
"The quality of the figure and its sculptural value should be considered first before paying any attention to the mark since these have been widely copied and added to very common wares as a part of the decoration."
I'd be very interested to know what the other marks are, if anyone knows.
I had someone tell me mine could be from said Artist but we know it could be from anyone the potters mark on mine was hard to read. I have had alot of people try to buy my figurine from me but never sold it due to I actually like it. After seeing some high prices being offered maybe I should reconsider.
Wolley and Wallis have mine at the moment. John has been on holiday and will be back Monday. Are you confident they are republic period?
thanks,
Tom
@thomasumjohnson I am only confident mine is republic does yours show cloth lines on the base. You probably know these are still made today and heavy copied for a 100 years now.
Thanks Brian, I wasn't really referring to the marks or bases (which look right) but the style. The matte realistic skin tones, whether they are correct for Republic period.
