These are things that I want to bid on because I like them. The first two lots are £50 - £75 the other two £40 - £60. They are largely undate except the yellow one which is described as 19th c.
The horse is described as 17th c style. He is unglazed. The base is a solid plinth of clay and he has an opening under his stomach, about the width of the saddle cloth. I didn't take a photo.
This yellow creature I prefer to the pair of green ones for no other reason than I like that thing sticking out of his head! The front feet are enclosed but the rear end has only a narrow base and a large opening. The clay is similar to the green pair.

This is my favourite - I like the Guanyin. She has a slightly concave base with a hole in it. There is also a square hole in her back. Maybe she was attached to something. I also like the deer or horse between the monkey.
So please help me out. I would like to buy one of these lots. Which would you choose?

I'd buy the Guanyin Figurine... very nicely made! And I think late Ming Dynasty, 17th Century...
Always hard to chose between so many fine objects 🤷
I am having the same problem with several bronzes I found in an auction because my wallet says I can only have one of them... 😂

With so many similar items I would be very careful , unless the auction house is very reputable . To me , any or all of these could be modern repos and you need really specialist knowledge of old chinese pottery to date/identify. Of course if you are just looking for cheap decorative items , then these are ok as modern copies, but which to buy is then a question of taste.
I certainly wouldn't be confident that the guanyin figures are old , but I can't tell from just these photos.

Tam, I know it is hard from these pictures and a difficult question that even if they are all genuine, might still come down to taste. As you can see, there are no real claims to age but this auction doesn't deal with so many Chinese pieces and often either mis-describes the item (in both ways ie says old when new and vice versa) or just gives a blanket 19th c. This is why I question so many of their lots.
However, they got these because of a personal collection with the owner who has died. Judging from the other items, some of which were from Sotheby's (I know easy to stick on a label but they look to be genuine items), I don't think he would knowingly have bought modern reproductions - but knowingly is always the crucial bit, isn't it?
Unfortunately, the auction had to close to any further viewings. I am glad I went when I did; at least I got to handle some lovely items. It was wonderful!
Well I didn't get any of them. The Guanyin group went for £300, the yellow creature £280, the pair £180 and I didn't bid on the horse although he only got £55.
