Can anyone offer a translation of what is written, and the artist name in pinyin and traditional Chinese characters?
I can see it says it is Guangxu 20th year, that would put it at 1891, but I'd appreciate some help with a complete translations. Thanks!
So, my friend told me the artist name is Xia Yun, but didn't give me the pinyin. So, if anyone can add to this, I'd appreciate it. Thx.
Dated Guang Xu 26th year, March 1901. Artist is a lady Ms Ho Xia Yun followed by a city or location that I don’t recognize.

@gfhandel Thank you, George! That reminds me... my Chinese friend said the location given is the 'old' name for Japan... he felt maybe she resided in Japan at the time of rendering this painting. Certainly has that influence in the brush work.
Have you ever come across this artist?
ArtNet has Xia Yun listed, but very few examples of her work, but the one scroll of a crane is a match in both style and signature. Nothing on Google.
It is a large painting that has been mounted to board.... 7 feet tall x 4 feet wide. The painting is not too expensive, but it's on the other side of the USA, so shipping might be quite a lot because it is mounted (can't be rolled).
The two characters seem to be having some good fortune, one chasing 5 bats (fu fu - infinite wealth), and the other collecting coins off the ground with a crane in between the two. There's also a basket of objects that I don't know quite what they are.
I like the piece... it has great size and presence, but I'm not sure if I should fork out $1000 for the painting, and another $400 for shipping.
It needs to be lifted off the board, acid removed, and either remounted to a scroll or framed. What do you think? Worth it?
Artist’ name is Ho Xia Yun and is prefixed in Chinese with a “Ms” character. Not familiar with her but it’s a large work and shipping may not be worth obtaining.

@greeno107 Cool painting. Let us know if you end up getting it. By the way, who do you use when you need a scroll remounted? I just bought nice one today that is in need of that and I was just about to ask the forum for recommendations, so you bringing that up is perfect timing! John
@johnshoe Remounting is not always necessary, but this painting is obviously mounted on something that is having a bad effect on the paper...seems to be full of acid, and the paper is deteriorating. So, at the very least, it should be lifted and the acid and stains removed.
Remounting has two benefits. It protects the painting from damage by having it mounted onto silk. And, scrolls are very easy to store without taking a lot of space since they just roll up.
This artist is not well known, but clearly this example is both very large and well rendered, so it may be her best piece. So, while it might never make it into Christie's, it is good example of literati style paintings of the late Qing... someday that might carry more weight among collectors.
Additionally, as a woman artist, I think there is also cultural value given how few woman artists recieved recognition.
I do not know where to recommend remounting as I have never done that. I have lifted paintings off of damaged scrolls through a conservator I use to know, but she is out of the business.
