Hello Everybody,
I need some assistance with the items below. I have been collecting stuff for many years, mainly Australian pottery. During my travels around junk and charity shops I often came across items from China and Japan. If I saw something I liked and it was affordable I purchased it. I am now at the stage of my living where I will retire shortly and down size my living arrangement. So I will be selling a few items. I need some help in identifying and correctly describing my stuff. I don't expect I have found anything rare or valuable. I never frequented anywhere with marbled halls, deep carpets and chandeliers and never paid more than a few dollars. Just would like to correctly describe things if I offer then on ebay. I have dozens of items but will only up load them a few at a time and space them out to be fair to other users.
Small blue and white vase 14.5 cm tall. 7cm wide at the base. Item purchased late 1970,s or early 1980's. No damage has pin holes in the glaze from firing. The painting is under glaze. But the small dots at the top are slightly raised enamel. The are a couple of black inclusions the glaze at the top rim. Look forward to your thoughts.
Thanks
Michael
Hi Michael
the mark is Kangxi (early 1700s approx) , but this is later and a very typical late C19th /early C20th vase , sometimes called 'kangxi revival' blue and white, made for export. This has nice decoration imo, I like the pendant things near the neck, and the building ;
these vases are quite common on ebay and value will depend mainly on size and condition,
with damage, they (vases of this small size) can go for £20-30, but if perfect then more , and if the decoration is particularly attractive around £100 (?). Obviously, bigger 'display' type vases from this time can be worth much more. But export blue and white from this period is never hugely valuable , because the quality of work declined in the C19th.
I think it is all underglaze blue , but maybe the pigment is applied thicker in some places so feels raised from the surface. They would not use overglaze enamels on this kind of piece.

Thank you Tam
Thanks for your assistance on the last item Tam appreciate you taking the time to help. Here are two more my collection. The beast is 21cm long. 10cm high. He has various damages as can be seen in the photo's but no cracks Has a hole in the back assume to hang on a wall maybe is to burn josh sticks in his mouth. He used to scare my kids when the were very small. But the gran kids love him and want to pet him. Ho Ho boy is 11cm tall and has damage to the lotus leaf he is holding. There are losses to the over painted glaze's. I have owned both these items for over 30 year.
Michael
Hi Michael , could I suggest you load new items onto a new thread for each one (unless they're very similar) ?...... otherwise it gets confusing and when you open the photos all the other items in the thread show up.
My feeling about the beast is that it's not chinese , or if chinese then fairly recent , meaning it was likely made for export soon before you bought it . It's probably based on an ancient mythical creature , but the object itself and the way it's decorated and shaped looks quite new. just my view.
The boy I would estimate is mid C20th; he is interesting but quite crudely modelled (face , hands etc) and loosely painted , imo. You can compare him to guanyin porcelain figures of a simliar age, who also hold lotus flowers and leaves.
