I’n considering buying this vase from a friend for $300 but he can’t tell me a thing about it. It seems I recall a pattern collectors call “Boy Pattern” and I presumed this was it. But I’m not convinced it’s real or Chinese. It seems thickly potted. Cream glaze over a grayish pottery. The foot is really squared and thick. Almost appears like barnacles were scraped off it. About 8” tall x 4.5”
Not quite sure what I’m looking at. Your thoughts are appreciated.
Cizhou ware If real would be good deal. I’m not experienced to tell real or modern.

Cixhou ware's from the Song dynasty sold by the major auction houses start in low thousand thru to the 10's of thousands special items are in the 100,000's of thousands. They still make Cixhou wares today so for the inexperienced the field is very difficult. I have often seen very nice items on ebay and have been tempted but have always listened to that other voice in my head which says why would this seller be offering me this for small 100's if it were genuine. There are lots of sellers with this type of ware on ebay mostly priced around $250.00 to $500 who make no claims as to age they just describe the pot so maybe that's the price range for recent production from modern kilns making these wares today. However there are other ebay sellers priced at the other end of the scale.

Although I am not an expert on these types of wares I believe it is a modern interpretation.

It's a modern copy. The glaze looks ok, but the shape, the painting and other features not.

Thank you everyone for this information. I truly value your input. This piece actually had barnacles growing on the unglazed portion of the vase and cleaned off. Is this the latest aging technique? Throw the ceramics in a lagoon for a few months to grow barnacles?
@johnshoe They must be implying it is from a shipwreck, when an old ceramic knickknack sells for 98,000, you can bet lots of entrepeneurs will try to redistribute the wealth to themselves, but as always, not much to the actual craftsman.
