Dear Mark Adams, Would you please look this over and tell me what I have. I thought is was a resin figure and paid a resin figure price for it. When I got it home and looked at it, it is certainly some kind of stone. Appears to be very hard. I picked it from the same family that had the silk robe. It is extremely well done. Your expertise is needed. I tried to get the best photos I could with the sun setting. JT

What you have here is a agate carving. Chalcedony agate has signs of banding whereas carnelian does not. If you look at the back you will see faint areas of banding so therefore chalcedony in my opinion.
Difficult to determine its age but in my opinion it's well carved and highly probable to be republican period or perhaps a little earlier. The carving is full which suggests earlier period with nice details to the facial features as well as the robes/other.
Not 100% sure but I think it is a depiction of the goddess Xi Wang Mu.

Jaimie, if you google "Chinese Carnelian", (carnelian is red agate) you will find many examples. But yours is definitely in the top few % in terms of quality, both in terms of carving and in terms of color.
Mark, where do the Chinese get their fantastic carnelian, bordering on almost cherry red in some pieces? It is far better color than anything we get here in the American Southwest (where it is frequently used in native American jewelry).
Here is a example of carnelian agate. Note from the image it does not have any signs of banding
Jamie, on your back of your figure you can see faint areas of banding suggesting its chalcedony agate.
It does not really matter. They are all from the same family. Some people may think carnelian others chalcedony.
Not sure Charles but it's a fairly common stone found worldwide. Some of the best examples are from Brazil.
Dendrite agate is sought after for its unusual look.

These two quartz carvings came from the same family. One has a restoration to head. Measures a little over 12 inches tall each. Supossed to be Qing period carvings. I don't know, maybe. I gave her 100 a piece for both. I thought they looked good enough to take a chance on. Not sure of current market value, and I'm sure the damage will hold the pair back some. There is a rose quartz figure too. Also supposed to be Qing period. I will shoot some pics of it later. JT

I concur with Xin. Mid 20th century carvings.
Unfortunately with the damaged head as you already know detracts substantially from their value.
In my opinion not worth much more than you paid for them.

Wonderful. And thank you. I shot the rose quartz figure. Here are the pics. There are a few nibbles, but no restorations. I got 40 bucks in it. I think I can recover that 😉 JT.
I think the green ones aren't quartz, but green fluorite. The Chinese have frequently carved this material. Google "Chinese carving green fluorite" for many examples. You can tell fluorite from quartz easily--it is much softer, and the fluorite has perfect cleavage. If you find fractures in it that are planar, it is almost certainly fluorite. Quartz has no cleavage, and will not break or fracture in flat planes.

Fluorite will light up in UV-light. The phenomenon fluorescence in named after the mineral.
