Hi All,
I ask for help! I found this 21cm vase on the internet, which century could that be?
Thanks,Damian
A dirty footrim always makes me feel uneasy. I would say: after 1900. But that’s just a guess.
Birgit
Sorry to me this one looks modern (too shiny, perfect form, another dirty footrim). But I only have a small display on my phone and can’t see the details, so other opinions might be more helpful.

This is actually a Ge type ("gold thread and iron wire") vase from late Qing dynasty. The white crackled glaze (small cracks) is typical for this period. At the foot rim you can see the very light iron red colour, also a hint.

Thank you for your answer. here one more
Damian
Hi Damian,
This light blue one is better, it's also a Ge type ware but from mid-Qing dynasty 18th C. This form is very popular at that time. The network of cracks in the glaze is different from the white one with foo dog ears. The cracks are bigger. The net is more beautiful in my opinion. You see the "gold thread and iron wire" effect is very clear. Foot rim with brown glaze is also correct for 18th C. On the last picture you can see the material body, very similar to the white colour of rice cake. It's a nice piece.
Shinigami, don't afraid of the shiny glaze. That's normal. There are many old porcelains which have very good condition like a new one.
This is my personal opinion, hope helps you a little bit.
Best regards,
Xin

Hi Xin,
Is this another example of the light iron red color you mentioned? Thank you!
Dear Damian,
I like your two pieces. Broadly, I'm in agreement with Xin, and think the vase of square section may be late Qing. The other item, whose shape would probably be referred to as 'alms bowl', is probably a bit earlier; I would think c. 1800 a possibility.
As for shiny glazes, well yes, they're not inevitably a sign of something modern. I recall being startled seeing some Jun wares in the Victoria and Albert Museum whose surfaces almost sparkled! Yet in their case, their authenticity as early wares was beyond any dispute.
Best wishes,
Alan
Thanks Alan,
estimate is 700 €
Dear Damian,
This seems a very reasonable estimate if the items are indeed as early as the pictures suggest they might be. Again, though, it would be wise if you could inspect them personally for additional reassurance. For items that on the face of it appear to have some age, there are normally some signs of ware. Of course, age-related wear is not inevitable, as I recall stressing to someone in Bonhams once, but it is nevertheless likely. Are there any scuffs on the glaze, for example, or small scratches? Drastic scuffing and scratching can suggest exactly the opposite of what you want to find, and may suggest that a faker's hand is at work, 'stressing' the item to give it a false appearance of age. You need to use your discretion all the time. Faked age stressing also has one or two tell-tale give away signs to it, but I can't get into that now, as my posts here on this site tend to wander on far longer than people may have patience to read!
Good luck with your prospective purchases,
Alan
ps oops, my English spelling is slipping, not enough coffee in my bloodstream today - where I said 'ware' in that last post, read 'wear'!

Hallo Damian,
kann dir leider nicht viel dazu sagen. Für mich ca. 1000€ wäre ok.

It's not totally the same. Different qualities of materials cause different effects of colour. I wrote too short to explain the whole thing. You must combine all hints together to identify it.
