Have you never seen an old one? I believe that only today they are making such unwatchable things. Until even a few years ago they were more decent.
The seal too is carved in careless manner.

I must admit when I first viewed this so-called Foo dog I was literally taken back by the unusual and abhorrent appearance. It's not a Foo dog in the classic sense, neither chinese nor Japanese. It's some sort of Alien cross. Literally grotesque in all shapes and manner.
I did not want to post my initial thoughts when I first viewed it. Simply stated that it was in my opinion Soapstone. Said figure has numerous little chips consistent with the soft material. If ones views the underside one would expect to see numerous scratches etc.

Maybe it is a bit better in person than in the pic I took, but I see your point. So, it is modern and of poor quality. I was just guessing it was a foo dog. I compared the seal to genuine ones and I see your point there as well....very poor. I pay very little for these things, so not much to lose. I bring home a lot of junk 😋

I got the feeing you were being kind when you simply stated it was soapstone. Don’t worry, I am not attached to these things. Just cheap stuff I bring home for fun. Once in a while I do find something nice, but I know its a crapshoot with my inexperience. Thanks as always for your time.

After some research, I found out its a tiger. Modeled after something like this one, in the old Japanese style of depicting them.

I am VERY happy that you did took my hard comment in the right way. I was a bit worried😊.
It is not always possible to tell the right words to anyone. Some people interpret “your item is a garbage” in the same way of “you are a garbage”. That is not clever; the comment has been to the object, not to the person.
I am absolutely convinced that telling the true as it is, especially to a beginner, is the best way for addressing him in the right direction. At least, if someone tells me “Giovanni, how is it possible that you have bought that garbage? It is horrible!” it is a sort of shock and my reaction would be “hey, I am really off then, I must increase my education”.
In fact, I think that the most common “your nice bowl is not of the period” is very dangerous, because a beginner would think “well, it is not genuine, but the expert said that it is nice, so not a bad purchase after all”.
Then, yes, your thing may be aiming to represent a tiger, but it remain horrible😊😊
