Very nice vases. The way the red turns to white in the flower next to the birds makes me think they could be later than Republic.

I am quite sure that vase is PROC despite the fine quality of the painting.

@lep I think your examples are closer to the 216 or something shown above the 1,000 dollar asking price one and the seal on the 200 example looks like the 1979-80s examples, you will need to see the remains of the seal on the bottom of the lamps, but I think your examples are nineteen-seventies/eighties, which Tam told me were being represented all too often on Ebay/other as Republic.

@lep Yes, I had an honest dealer in Jakarta who replied to my request on two mirrored floor vases with the red double box seal mark, "not old Madame, I think nineteen-seventies." I'm not always sure how accurate Gotheborg dates are, but I think it is Gotheborg that gives that red double box seal mark a start date of 1979. Check it out. Sharon

@sharonp gotheborg has some variations, including golden qianlong and "made in china" bellow, points them 40's 50's . so, the caligraphy in the back of these lamps will maybe help, since the golden seal of etsy has golden in caligraphy, and the other doesnt.

I don't see them 70' 80's, see them earlier. but will continue to dig because they might go cheap

👍

Both Etsy vases seem recent to me. One would have to see the bottom of your pair of vases to decide about age.

@lep,

Hi Luis,

A reasonably nice pair of vases/lamps.

The two examples you posted are not republic period. They are new copies at ludicrous asking prices.

Getting back to your post. The depictions of the birds are a little bit stiff. I don't like the intensity of the pink enamels. The branches are simply painted. The shading in the flowers are reasonably executed. It's been hastily painted.

I would like to see the bases. However based on the images provided I think these are not republic period but later.

Mark

To me the typical combination of turquoise top and pink bottom in a vase is always a warning sign. There are too many vases with this design and they are usually post 1980 though invariably offered as Republic.

@imperialfinegems I tend to look at something, find it nice, and then either it deconstructs and leaves me not interested or keeps me going and engaged, because it sustains itself as a nice piece. That's an important process for developing our "trained eye"!

now I see the stiffness, the reds, also that Birgit said. The repetition of these analysis take some time to bare fruit, I took a break of antiques and now I must keep on learning and spending hours of research to continue this passion!

Love this forum!

😘

@lep The coupe de grace on those non-Republic vases, here is the 1979-80's mark (according to Gotheborg) and the script style.

I have seen one vase exactly like my mirrored pair

being offered as Republic and for a ridiculous price. The colors are pretty, but they are what they are, which is PROC. Sharon
