I won this Plaque yesterday and should be picking it up next week. I think it's well painted and appears to be in the Kangxi style, but it also looks "too well" painted, in that the lines are very clean. But I'm not an expert on Famille Jaune or Kangxi. Any ideas could it be Kangxi or republic. The colours might be off in the Photos, I've noticed the auctioneer has very bad colour balance on the camera they use, so for the true colours, We'll have to wait until I hold of it...

he also says there were no Kangxi copies made during the republic so it must be before or after...
This is, from memory so excuse the lack of detail, a depiction of the fish swimming upstream where it will reach the dragon gate and turn into a dragon and I believe it is often found on gifts for those taking or passing an exam that will give rise to a promotion. I think it is something to do with rising up through the order of rank, but I am sure someone will know more.
It is an old, traditional motif but I am not at all sure your plaque is Kangxi. The yellow looks wrong, but if as you say the colours are off, maybe newer pictures will help. However, I am not convinced by the way the dragon is done either but maybe others will feel differently.
Do you have pictures of the back?
You can see the difference in the dragon (claws, scales etc) and fish on the Christie's plaque you posted.
I found a nice clear example of what a kangxi yellow ground should look like which might make for a good comparison when you get the piece.

Thanks for the input. I thought the lines are too clean (from the photos) to be kangxi. Yes it's the transformation of the Carp into the Dragon.. The Plaque I posted from Christies is the only example of a plaque I can find with the dragon being the main theme. I'm not saying it's Kangxi, but I think the Kangxi style.. Here's a photo of the back, again I think the colours are probably off, but I guess not so important for the back of the piece..
@julia, thanks again I spent ages looking for the yellow, as I thought it was off for a Kangxi ground colour, but then I found Peters blog on Kangxi porcelain and discovered famille Jaune. Which to be honest, I never heard of before.

Thanks for that. I do think the yellow is off, but we need to wait and see better pictures on that. Regarding the back, I don't know if that helps or not, but one of our experts will.
The dragon though, doesn't look right to me, the eyes on yours look more Guangxu.
My feeling is it may be 19th c, but it may also be a later copy. I hope someone who knows more than me, looks in. How was it described by the seller?

In my opinion this plaque is not Kangxi period but guangxu period. The green eyes were predominantly seen (but there are exceptions) during the guangxu period. Obviously they make fakes with green eyes now.
This is in my opinion higher quality than is normally seen. The scales of the dragon are different too. Most from the guangxu period are criss- cross or dots or both.
The back also look good for this period. In line with wood fired kiln.
Very nice example and highly desirable. I like it very much so.

I think the head and face is less ferocious than other renditions. I wonder if it could be because it's not fully formed, there are no upper teeth. As the carp hasn't transformed completely into a dragon.
This brushpot has a similar face, in that there are no upper teeth and the face is less ferocious.
