I purchased these two items and I wonder if I wasted my money. Could you please help me? Are they of the period or they are just modern copies? First one was listed as "A piece of Ming Dynasty Chenghua Doucai happy eyebrows Tianzi jar" and the stem cup was listed as "A piece of Ming Dynasty Chenghua Doucai Cup". Thank you!

Hi Sylvia, welcome to the forum. I'm afraid the jar is modern. The colors look wrong and it comes with typical attributes of fakes like a wooden box and an abundance of labels. A real Ming piece in this condition would cost tens of thousands of $.

@eamonng

Hi Sylvia, and welcome to this great forum! ...

Unfortunately both these pieces are modern copies, probably made to decive. The labels on the base on the jar are also fake, applied to provide an impression it has some provenance ...

Authentic Chenghua mark and period pieces are one of the most converted and sort after of all Chinese ceramics and, when offered for sale either at a dealers or auction, command and fetch extremely high prices ...

@shinigami Thank you so much for your kindness to take the time and answer! What about the stem cup? I have to pay $2000 for both, then some taxes and shipping. It will probably jump to $2500 all together. Are they both worth this money? I think I made a big mistake.

@ming1449 Thank you so much for taking the time to answer. I have to pay $2500 for both. I purchased them from an auction house on Live Auctioneer. I don't know now how to get out of the deal. That was silly of me not to make my homework before bidding.

Kind regards

@ming1449 Are they both worth $2500 because that is how much i have to pay? Are they made after 1950? Thank you!

In my opinion they are made in the 21st century and I'm afraid they have only decorative value, which is the price other people would pay if you sold them for what they are: modern items. Some Ebay buyer might find them attractive as decoration and would probably pay $50 each. Try to get out of the sale if you can. Or keep them as decoration. Other people, myself included, have made similar costly mistakes.

@eamonng,

Yeah these are not worth anywhere near what you had purchased them for at the auction.

My advice to you is that if you haven't paid for them then don't pay for them and inform the auction house that you were deceived into buying them as they are fakes.

I second Mark's advice, if you have not already paid. Knowingly deceptive behavior shoud not be rewarded. Welcome to the forum.

Oh my, what have I done? I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart! I started having a doubt when I saw how the auction was going. There was just one watcher/bidder for the item while live but the bids were coming one after the other, then suddenly everything stopped and the price dropped(to probably the last amount that the single bidder placed) and immediately they wrote on the screen "item won by competitive bidder" and  change to the next listing. Everything was so fast, I barely had to time to notice the whole thing happening. I bet the winner didn't even understand how it happened that he won.

Thank you once again and I hope I will be able to get out of the sale. Otherwise, I am suing them and Live Auctioneer if they don't help.

@eamonng,

Its going to be very difficult to sue either of them. It's a auction.

If you don't pay the invoice then there's nothing much that they can do.

If you happen to have filed your credit card details with Liveaucioneers then I would immediately try to remove it. Otherwise they may try to charge you for the purchase automatically.
