Hi pulled this vase out of a museum does anyone recognize this type of glaze?
One more can’t get lighting right.
Tea dust glaze?
I’m still trying to get the lighting right it is very difficult on this piece even in photo booth. It’s more of a reddish pink.
@william I thing you are on to something. They do have a peachy look. I got this from a museum. Picture outside in cloudy lighting.
@william are these yours. The glaze on my vase has a orange peel texture I haven’t seen a texture like this.
Yes, I bought them a couple of years ago. They are most likely Republican and do have a pronounced orange peel texture to the glaze. What is the color of area of your vase that is transmuted? Peach bloom can go greenish.
It is greenish I was wondering if they used a green glaze under the peach glaze. This vase was in a museum it’s at least a 100 years old. But look at the glaze stoppage at the bottom. I thought late 19th century couldn’t control glaze like this.

You are thinking of the sang de boeuf glazes which they did lose control of in the 19th century. I think more because the formulation of that glaze changed from the 18th to the 19th century. Peach bloom was a different animal. “…peachbloom effect was managed by spraying a copper-lime pigment between two clear glazes” according to Nigel Wood, Chinese Glazes.
@william thanks for all you help on this vase. I read the article just now at it does seem to fit peach bloom spray. I’m getting ready to sell about 10 pieces from the museum and I’m struggling with this large vase my biggest issue is the flared foot base and it’s flat. My second issue is the flared top of the vase. I know it’s not modern but until I can find a shape it’s not Qing either. It also has a joint in the center maybe a clue. Someone told me it could be Japanese also but haven’t found a vase that is glazed like this. Thanks again for a direction.
I think I can shed some light on the very flat base of your vase. It has been ground flat so that it would fit in a stand or to allow it to sit level. Not that uncommon when stands for art objects were more popular with western collectors. The fact that your piece has a substantial body crack from firing is also a strong hint there was some problem with the base. For example, I have a Kangxi piece with a ground flat base.
