Hello again, this cloisonné snuff box seems to have taken a little extra work. One side shows a dragon catching a pearl with a pearl at the tail, as well. A blue color inside the box and lid. Would anyone have thoughts on age? Bought at the same time as some other late 20th century pieces.
To me it looks Japanese, late 19th/early 20th. How tall is it?
@johnshoe it is 5 1/2” tall. Also a closeup of the dragon and pearl and one of the eight decorations around the top. Little tiny dots outline the lid and top of the
piece. I seem to remember reading that was a Japanese tendency.

The design is not a dragon catching a pearl, but a Buddhist lion, or 'Shishi' in Japanese, playing with two brocade balls amounts flowers, possibly peonies ...
I know nothing about snuff bottles, so defer to @johnshoe regarding country of origin and dating attribution ...

@ming1449 interesting. I just saw on cam.ac.uk in “History of Cloisonné in Japan” a couple that look similar to this by Namikawa Yasuyuki about 1880-90 that are called lidded vases. Maybe this is not a snuff bottle but a lidded vase? The quality looks similar, but of course the ones on the Victoria and Albert Museum site are going to be of highest quality.
@centralpapottery you are correct it is not a snuff bottle, nor is yours on the level of a Yasuyuki, but it is a nice bottle, so enjoy it.
@johnshoe not sure if you're a collector of cloisonne, but I decided to eBay it and let someone else enjoy a while. (Japanese Cloisonne Vase Meiji - item 266079187389) I started it at $99 and someone bid though. Just wanted to let you know in case you liked it and were interested.
