I found this painting, interesting to my eyes, the seller asks around $60 for it, but it looks old, what do you think?:)

I think for that low dollar amount I would definitely go for it. The pictures get blurry so it isn't totally clear if it's a copy or authentic, but it appears there could be legitimate wear to the silk around the rollers, etc. There's no guarantee but it could be something desirable. I always grab paintings for cheap if I think there's a chance it could be something because the potential upside is significant if it turns out to be somebody important. But they can and do fake wear also so seeing it in person is preferable of course. But in this case I'd roll the dice and see what happens.

I don't know anything about Chinese paintings, that's why It is really hard to identify the age for me because the dark tone doesn't help 😀
but I realized something, there is a line that looks very angular, it is a bit strange to me
and the pattern of the frame also reminds me of the later paintings, but I still don't know anything about paintings 😀
I kind of worry when the whole thing, mounts included is totally brown or yellowed, but that's just me.... and the lighting which is pretty awful isn't helping. I have my doubts that there is much age, others may have better insight though, I just buy them when I like them, not really knowledgeable or anything.
I have a similar scroll, Japanese circa 1850-70s, just to compare the tigers, I'll add a pic( house is being worked on so no where to hang it at the moment haha).

@88teo88 another interesting thing I just noticed is it looks like the top is cut down as though this was originally bigger. Am I seeing that right?
Or is it that the calligraphy goes onto the backing? In that case it could be a print. Interesting.
@88teo88 As you said, the painting is just so so, regardless of its age. The mark seems a generic one referring China with the first two chars.

Yeah I'm changing my mind. I probably wouldn't buy now. I'm a little trigger happy when it comes to paintings.
@88teo88 I think that tiger painting is modern, made to look old. You might as well buy a modern one for $60 that looks perfect imho.
@jbeer2121 Love Japanese tiger paintings - something very vicious looking about them - same with their dragons.
Here is my tiger that I grew up with in parent's home, WWII era, forum thought Japanese and that a soldier brought home from WWII. It was in the house when my parents bought the house, served as a mounted cabinet sliding door.

is there any catalogue or description if something is old? i mean, just based on the frame, so,

Sharon's tiger has brown frame and stemmed flowers, 1940
a Catalogue about frame patterns?
As far as mine goes the brown tattered silk you see is part of the original silk mount (apparently), but the seller I bought it from mentioned that it was remounted around the second world war if I recall correctly....so the silver silk/taupe is newer. Also if the rods on each end are ivory they are often removed and then the whole thing remounted, just because of the difficulty or potential trouble from dealing with the ivory.
