I know I know, another lamped piece. Shouldn’t have bought it, but it was cheep and I just had to see if the porcelain was as old as the lamp parts. I thought I would show it before I take it apart later tonight, hopefully.
I might bet late 19th on the jar, and the lamp hardware is mid century so it fits the trend. Looking forward to what you find next.
That's a nice find, but personally the base of the lamp hardware always puts me off from displaying it with that pierced brass style particularly. It never matches anything I have currently. 😅
@pbarski93 Thanks for your thoughts, Preston. Well, here’s the mark. It’s a fairly nicely written Yongzheng mark with a strange CHINA stamp and paper label. Think the paper label is original? Guessing so. If so, it’s kind of crazy that they drilled holes in this not that long after it was made. I added an inside view.
And here’s a picture of the glaze stoppage I cleaned off a little at the foot. It’s thick and neat.
The label may have been added on with the lamp hardware, but the bottom suggests mid-century or later in that event. Along with the period age appearance of the hardware and label, this was probably more for department store export as a reproduction.
Neat find still.
@pbarski93 Department store is a possibility, I suppose. I just have never seen one that was hand turned with a well hand drawn mark and then unprofessionally drilled to be lamped. Even if the lamp materials were 1960s, I would think someone would have waited 10 years to lamp or they just would have bought a lamp. So, possibly now for me it's 1950s or earlier. But, my reasoning is not professional, of course. Maybe someone else will also give their thoughts for further investigation. Thanks.
Thanks, I am still unsure. I can't get away from the feeling it is from around 1980s. I have seen other pieces with the same pattern around the neck, same style of Yongzheng mark, dated 19th c, but they haven't convinced me either.
I could be wrong, of course. This is just my feeling from the photos.
The lamp fittings look old... The converted drilled ginger jar looks rather newish.

Thanks everyone. I can see the possibility of everyone being right, which is not possible, ha. To me, definitely not 19th C. Also, the Made in China label looks older, but anywhere from 30s to 80s. I will keep looking to find a similar. I remember Peter talking about the bottom border pattern once, but forget which video.
