@thomasumjohnson @Greeno107
Each stroke on the characters has been well written, and took a long time, precise and patience for the porcelain workers to do so. - so I think it's republic. Regular script started 5th century, not commonly used until recently (after 18th century)
@yinchris Thank you for taking the time to study the piece. I accept your opinion.
I've mentioned before, I avoid Republic copies like this unless I handle them myself because the copies these days are really very hard to distinguish.
I still find some colors a bit off (but could be the photo), and the use of the 6 character mark seems incorrect for this type of piece, even for Republic period, but all of my concerns can be explained away as the technical aspects of Republic period pieces varies greatly.
I did say I liked it from the start....still do! Very pretty!
@greeno107 it definitely could be the photos when I take pictures with my new IPhone the colors are way off it seems to not do well in led lighted areas.
@yinchris I found some early examples with the Kaishu regular script. One is Kangxi the other 18th century.

Here's the blurb from the link below:
a closely comparable octagonal vase decorated with two floral panels and two poems, one of which is the same as that seen here but written in the regular or kaishu script, in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, included in the Special Exhibition of K’ang-his, Yung-cheng and Ch’ien-lung Porcelain Ware from the Ch’ing Dynasty in the National Palace Museum, National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1986, cat. no. 80.

Also the foot of the of one of the boys is white, it looks unfinished. This happens twice in the vase form the link above. See the photos below.. The white is heavily applied also, so presuming it's opaque..
@thomasumjohnson Good detecting and development of critical viewing skills analysis.

I couldn't open the link.
@thomasumjohnson So, you are using how one foot (shoe) is rendered as a means of authentication?
But, you’re ignoring the deficiencies in the manner to which the faces and robes differ between your piece and known genuine pieces?
This is a bad practice. Sorry.
@greeno107 The yellow in the robes on the cited piece also... I had some doubts about the yellow before seeing the cited piece.
@yinchris Sorry Yin. The text is in the blurb of the vase in the link. There is no link to the cited script. It is only referenced in the blurb for this vase :
http://www.alaintruong.com/archives/2019/10/16/37717818.html
It's cited as a reference in the text..
@greeno107 Here's a side by side comparison with the quails that you found(thank you). The robes are different but not a million miles away. With the white foot, it's not totally irrelevant because before I regarded it as a negative, so finding an other is useful to me. I'm not an expert but feeling my way through the dark.
regards
The colours aren't far off one of the examples Julia posted.
@thomasumjohnson Here are the photos you were comparing that prompted my response…..
A known Qianlong example…
and your brush pot…
And despite the obvious differences in the details of the faces, the brightness of the robe enamels, never mind the quality of the background rendering, you focus on onecommon trait… a white foot.
This is not a reasonable or valid method of authentication.
Now, I’ve already stated,
“if the only issue are the discrepancies with the quality of the rendering, than perhaps your brush pot is Republic in period.”
However, whether or not the piece is Republic, trying to authenticate in the manner you seem to be promoting, by finding one or two traits in several different authentic pieces, and trying to use these this to justify your piece that combines all these different traits into one piece is a bad method.
In fact, fakes are great at borrowing elements from different genuine pieces and combining them.
Again, I’m not saying your brush pot is fake , especially without handling it, but your method of authentication is flawed.
This brush pot is being sold in May at Dore and Rees in Frome.
Lee Young is the new owner of the auction house and he's looking to make something of the asian art department, with only 2 auctions a year. He also is a presenter on the Antiques road show, here in the U.K.
It should be a really good auction.. He's placed the brush pot as Republic.
