This plate (9" across) was not dated when I purchased it, and I bought it because I thought it might be Yongzheng--it looks similar to another plate I have, that has been attributed to the Yongzheng period. It is very carefully hand-decorated with great detail, and the underglaze blue looks good to me. But I am a little worried by the bottom. The plate sagged a little in the kiln and touched the kiln grit, which stuck to it in the center. The pile of kiln grit looks a bit fake to me, and it is the lowest part of the plate, so the plate actually rocks a little on the pile of grit. Despite how finely decorated it is, it seems unlikely to me that such a plate, with the bump of kiln grit, would not have been destroyed. Any thoughts? Is this a modern copy? If not, what age is it?

I share your uncertainty. Is that grit on the foot rim, too? I haven't handled an 18th c plate with grit on it, or indeed come across one. I don't think it is Yongzheng, I can’t find a comparative decoration, they seem to be mainly women.
I find the base strange, too. At first I thought something had been removed, then I read what you said about it sagging.
I am going to say, I wouldn't buy it as an 18th c piece. It may well be, but I am unconvinced and if I were looking for an 18th c plate, I would rather have something that didn't make me wonder. I suspect it may be later, the border looks more of a later qing style, but it could just be a copy.
Let's see what others think, as I could easily be wrong.
Here is the other plate. It is only 4.5" across. It is supposed to be from the Ca Mau Shipwreck, and it is a known pattern, attributed to the Yongzheng period. It does look like a shipwreck piece, with a slightly creamy glaze, and some discoloration on the back. It is very thin, almost eggshell porcelain.
Comparing the two, the blue looks fairly similar, and the porcelain base in both cases is very snowy white, although the larger plate definitely isn't eggshell, and the foot rim has the kiln grit. I guess that is one thing that makes me think the larger plate may not be late Qing--the very, very white porcelain. Even the kiln grit on the foot rim is whiter that I have seen on late Qing pieces. But that is just my opinion.
John's plate has similar motifs (butterflies and figures), but clearly has a more complex decoration. The bottom looks almost identical, albeit missing the grit!
I will ask Peter, and let you know what he says...

As with the plate John posted, the smaller of the two makes the figures in the other look very stiff. They also have no context, it is as though they ran out of ideas or someone fired it before the artist was finished.
It will be interesting to know what Peter says. Maybe provide him with a link to the plate John found, too?
Edit: As a comparison, I mean, not for authenticating!

I think the smaller one is absolutely ok for Yongzheng. Don't know about the bigger plate.

That was quick! Peter said it was 19th century. Based on what Peter had to say, I think that John's example is also mid-19th century. The foot rim is distinctive, and the style of the figures and butterflies (?) is 19th century as well.
