Hello everyone. I have this vase which I think is quite attractive. The inscription reads: "Spring plowing - By You Haibin in 1962" but I don't know if this is correct and would appreciate your opinions.
Best regards, Philip
Philip
Hello QuinKing,
I like your vase, the shape makes it work like an old painted scroll the scene opens as you turn it around. Unfortunately viewed on my small screen I can't see the details of the figures faces etc. From what I can see it appears to be hand painted. Can't help with the translation others here will no doubt be more helpful with this. The shape, style of painting etc fits with a date close to what you have suggested.
I have posted this link with marks for the period before but lack the knowledge to direct you to it so have included the link again.
Cheers Michael

Hi Philip,
your translation is correct. I was thinking, if there was no inscription or date what date would have been given by myself? I probably would have said “Post 1940” based on style and decoration. Very nice vase you have there.
George
Thanks for the replies. The vase is indeed hand painted (both the borders and the central scenes). After some research I have also been able to identify the mark, thanks to this article on watersilkdragon: https://watersilkdragon.wordpress.com/2020/02/09/a-basic-outline-of-proc-peoples-republic-of-china-base-marks-on-factory-and-other-porcelain-1949-2000/ It can be written as: "Ya Wan Zhen Cang" and was according to the website used on "one-off" pieces during the 1950s/60s. As for the age I really hope it's from the 60s, and both of your opinions on the matter are encouraging.
Best Regards
Philip
Hi Philip,
Your vase is a delightful example. Beautifully painted. The artist has been influenced by a number of artists by the style of his paintings. Notably Zhang Zhitang and Wang Yeting.
I tried to look up this factory mark with regard to history etc. Unfortunately there was/is very little available etc. The factory Mark can be translated to 'delicate collectable precious treasure'. The vase pictured was sold by Christies and came from the Peter Wain collection and described as early 20th century.
I believe based on the style and figures therein that the date of 1962 appears to be correct.

Hi Philip -
Concur with others posts - a really high quality piece painted with a detailed atmospheric landscape that takes you on a journey - one can almost imagine wondering through and lingering within such ... Very beautiful ...
Stuart
Thanks for all the replies yet again. I got it for a very good price in a non-internet auction so I am still not 100% sure it's authentic, but I suppose there aren't that many people faking landscapes of this quality and late time period? I also managed to find a porcelain plaque by the same artist that sold in China in case anyone is interested: https://auction.artron.net/paimai-art0022461164/ He seems to best known for motifs related to the cultural revolution, which would explain the factory in the background of my vase in picture 2.
Best regards, Philip
Philip
The plaque is for sale, as far as I can tell, and is almost certain to be a fake. Artron. net is full of fakes , and you can be sure that any known artist from any period will be extensively copied and faked.
Early PROC items have a nostalgia factor for many Chinese collectors , and also these things have become a newer investment vehicle : more items available , less known about the field , more possibilitiy of rises in value. The fakers are just following the market.

I believe your vase is a authentic piece and dated accordingly.
It would be worth while to do some further research on the artist if you are able. The kiln/factory had from what I can gather numerous artists designing their wares. I did look through my republican /proc references without any success.
Mark
Good to know artron isn't an accurate source of information.
I'll make sure to do some research on this vase, reach out to some dealers with contacts in China etc and post some updates when I get more info.
