@xin_fawis That is an ambitious auction estimate for that European style Qianlong vase.

What a strange description. I thought partial was referring to Chinese. I guess they think it sounds better than other, clearer options. The gilding being fugitive is rather poetic, though.

I don't think I would spend my money on this, it seems rather pricey for something so damaged, but Xin obviously brought it to our attention for a reason. Maybe I am about to learn that I should consider it - if I could afford it.

@julia @greeno107

It's extremly rare. I found similar paintings on an example sold in 1997. I heard this vase from Doyle is already sold once at the beginning of this year.

Thank you, Xin. I thought you would have a good reason for posting that. I shall have better look on the pc tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what it goes for.

@julia Yes, maybe the describer read Fugitive Colors by Lisa Barr or maybe she has read too many art auction catalogues, but it is a lovely turn of phrase.

@xin_fawis The glass ones, like you posted, are the most rare. But, I was considering the amount of damage as being a bit too much.

Thinking back to the imperfect/incomplete Qianlong dragon moon flask sold by Wooley… only about $60,000, right?

I think I’d rather own that piece.

@xin_fawis Is that a halo? Is this supposed to be the Virgin or St. Elizabeth with John the Baptist? I do like the heavenly blue background like a Gothic church interior.

The one that is for sale looks like a straw hat and the one on the catalogue does as well when expanded, never mind.

Lot 84from the 2016 catalogue has a pair of ear cleaning groups, what I particularly enjoyed was a Don Quixote scene plate from 1740, enjoyed reading about the collectors, the Millers, catalogue also features plenty of famille rose and Hatcher cargo pieces.

If that vase had been intact it could bring five million or more. It is closely related to the golden pheasant vase sold for hk$200,000,000 at Sotheby's in 2011.

A falangcai 'european subject' vase of similar shape is at British Museum.

I don't think it's a religious theme on that glass brushpot.
