Hello,
I would say it looks more Kangxi than 19th C. I don't mind the blue enamel so much as stated in the report. I think it's a good piece from early 18th C! The enamel does have 19th c characteristics of impurity but overall I guess it is earlier than 19th

Saying that, the porcelain paste does have some 19th century features, the tone and impurities so I'm really not sure..
My first thought was Kangxi, from the way the animals are depicted. Did they make Kangxi copies at the beginning of the 19th century?

I had a similar charger several years ago which I presumed was Kangxi and was also heavily rim-fritted. Unfortunately the photo is not good enough to make a close up comparison.
I agree the one on ebay looks to be C18th , rather than C19th, and possibly kangxi.

Amateur though I am, I also am veering towards kangxi but I have a question:
How would you describe the pinkish colour of the creature above the basket of flowers?
I have also learnt a new word - penumbra. I gather that refers to the halo which he says isn't present however, on a colour chart I got from Gotheborg, it says that this is not necessarily present.

Dear Julia,
good eye, congratulations. It is not clear, but that should be pink enamel, which is commonly accepted as being introduced in China in 1924, during Yongzheng.
Since the decoration is far from the Yongzheng style, that should exclude a late Kangxi / early Yongzheng date.
Anyway, the seller is not claiming it as being Kangxi, but a 19th century copy instead.
Is this meaning that he is right then?

I think it is 19th century. I absolutely do not see the kangxi quality and i think it has a 19th century footrim.

Thank you! I thought the other colours might give a clue, too.
The colour chart that I mentioned said that "early rose from late Kangxi (experimental; tinoxide mixed with gold) but most rose is Yongzheng and later; first rose is pale &opaque ..."
I wasn't sure the colour on that creature fitted this description of first usage in late kangxi. If it did, how likely would it be that the colour would be replicated exactly on this plate if it were made in the early 19th century? I mean, was the intention to make a true copy of the colours as well as the decoration style or would a 19th century artist be more inclined to use the colours available to them?
However, if this plate is meant to replicate early/mid Kangxi (and I do not have the expertise to tell!) and this pinkish-hue had not been created at that time, then as Giovanni says, does that confirm the later date?
