About Me

    Food Packaging Film

    Prevent Oxygen and Moisture from Spoiling Flavour and Quality of Food

    As food safety has become the main focus for many brands and consumers alike, many ovenable films make sure that food can go from the store to the dinner table without being unpackaged.

    Use high-quality Food Packaging Film Solutions for the food industry. Packaging plays a critical role in the preservation of food throughout its distribution chain. High quality and food-grade plastic food packaging are necessary to protect perishable food products while in transit. The use of a suitable packaging solution helps in improving food life, safety, and sustainability. The selection of the correct type of packaging is vital for food businesses for products like dairy, fresh foods, and bakery items have a highly perishable nature. These products need a resilient and airtight barrier, which enhances their shelf life. Moreover, from the standpoint of environmental sustainability, the minimum consumption of plastic is a significant factor for a business to consider while choosing plastic food packaging for their products.

    Medical Packaging Film

    Medical packaging films are used for a wide range of medical and pharmaceutical products such as tablets, pills, capsules, implantable devices, unit dose medications, and diagnostic test kits in bags, pouches, etc, with mostly plastic film packaging and sometimes metallic films based on the requirement of applications.

    Plastic to Gain Significant market Share in PC (Polycarbonate) Films in Medical Devices

    Packaging for medical devices is generally fabricated from thermoformed Polycarbonate (PC) film, which refers to a polymer-based medical devices packaging. Such films provide the package and its contents to be sterilized together by exposure to radiation. Emerging applications of PC through thermoformed include various medical parts such as inhalers for the consumer market, ophthalmic products, orthopedic materials, lab-on-a-chip devices for determining blood chemistry or analyzing proteins, etc.

    Autoclaving sterilization is the most common method to sterilize the equipment, where the equipment needs to withstand temperatures of up to 163 degrees Celsius. PC film is the most appropriate film to withstand this temperature.

    Medical Packaging Film provides autoclave stability which meets sterile medical packaging applications complied by FDA regulations and USP-VI compliance. It maintains exceptional clarity while allowing heat resistance for steam and dry heat sterilization. The applications include ophthalmic solutions, blister packaging, implants, instrument tray sets, woven products, and diagnostics, which majorly increase the demand in the market. ;

    Skin Packaging: Surlyn VS Skin Poly Film

    Are you thinking of using skin packaging film for your products? Maybe you are a food manufacturer or perhaps you are a buyer for a hardware and tooling business. You know that you want to use skin packaging for your products, but you are not sure if you should use surlyn film or skin poly film.

    You understand that both films are used in similar applications, but you are confused about which film you should be using for your products specifically. You need to know which is a better fit for your packaging needs.

    Industrial Packaging has been helping clients with skin packaging for many years and we often get questions about the difference between skin poly film and surlyn film. People want to know which one is better for skin packaging applications as well as how they are actually used in the creation of skin packs.

    How Is Skin Poly Film And Surlyn Film Used In Skin Packaging?

    Skin packaging (not to be confused with blister packaging) is made by putting surlyn or poly film over a product and heating it after it has been placed on a backer. Backers are flat boards made from materials like blister-board, paper, or plastic. Other materials like cardboard, are also sometimes used to create backers.

    Skin packaging is often used for packaging applications like fish, hardware, computer and electrical components and many other types of products.

    They are perfect for products that need to be seen and inspected before purchasing in retail settings such as freezers, coolers, shelves and other types of high-visibility areas.

    When either film is placed on the item sitting on top of the backer, vacuum sealing machinery makes a tight seal between the film and backer, encasing the product in a uniform shape.

    What is EVOH and How is it Used in Food Packaging?

    While traditional thermoplastic resin materials, such as polypropylene, polyethylene and HIPS, all have a certain degree of inherent barrier properties, they are not typically seen as “barrier” materials. Polypropylene, for example, is naturally an excellent moisture barrier but does not perform as well when it comes to oxygen permeability. In order to protect the contents of the packaging from both oxygen and moisture, a barrier material must be incorporated into the composition of the sheet – and this is where materials such as EVOH come in.

    So what is EVOH High Barrier Film and how does it contribute to increasing the shelf life of packaged food products?

    enhanced barrier polypropylene

    EVOH stands for Ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer and is a flexible, crystal clear, glossy thermoplastic copolymer. This material has excellent flex-crack resistance, and exhibits a high resistance to hydrocarbons, oils and organic solvents. EVOH is known for having some of the best barrier resistance to gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide which makes it particularly suited for packaging food, drugs, cosmetics, and other perishable products. When compared to other common films, EVOH is considered to have superior barrier properties. However, when exposed to moisture, EVOH loses its good gas barrier properties. For this reason, EVOH is often used in a multilayer co-extruded film structure with materials such as HDPE, PP and PET, all of which have superior moisture barrier properties.

    Through the process of extrusion lamination, a pre-made EVOH film is wound around a heated chrome roll, fed through the nip of the chrome rolls where the die lip meets, and laminated and bonded to the material being extruded from the die lip. Using this process, the EVOH High Barrier Film is laminated to the outer surface of the extruded sheet whether it is PP, PE, HIPS, etc. The configuration of EVOH on the surface of a monolayer sheet provides sufficient barrier properties, however barrier properties can be dramatically improved by the number of layers the sheet consists of. ;

    What Are Lidding Films? Applications And Uses

    What Are Lidding Films?

    Lidding films are a type of flexible packaging film. Generally speaking, they are most commonly made from paper, foils, polyethylene, polyester, and other types of flexible packaging materials.

    Lidding films are available in both easy-peel and lock-tight versions. With easy-peel, as the name would suggest, the consumer can peel the film from the container with relative ease.

    On the other hand, lock-tight films seal so tightly; you need a tool (such as scissors or a knife) to gain access to the product. This type of film features a layer of sealant that is laminated to the lidding film for superior adhesion.

    What Are Lidding Films Used For?

    Lidding films are most commonly used to seal plastic containers, paperboard pints, or trays for food items such as dairy products like sour cream and cottage cheese. Other products packaged in lidding films may also include canned soups, meats, microwave dinners, and other foods packaged in rigid containers.

    What is Thermoforming Film?

    Thermoforming is a method of forming plastic sheets. These sheets are available in a variety of thicknesses, depending on the product type. Thinner sheets of plastic are referred to as films. Thermoforming films are essential for the creation of many common consumer goods. ;

    Applications of Thermoforming Film

    The thermoforming film is used to create a variety of everyday products, such as:

    Consumer goods. The thermoforming film is often a preferred method for manufacturing disposable plastic cups, plates, and other consumer goods.

    Packaging. Thin-gauge thermoforming is used to create plastic packaging for products across retail, medical, food and beverage, and other industries.

    Medical. Thermoforming films can be used to produce face shields or other medical equipment.

    Displays. The screens on many smart devices are formed using thermoforming film.

    Marketing. Thermoforming offers an ideal solution for creating panels or thin plastic parts used in POP and POS displays and other marketing initiatives.
