Have just seen this website accusing some eBay sellers of being fraudsters. With some of the sellers they do sell a lot of fakes it must be said, but some of the sellers don't seem deceitful minded to me:
http://www.chineseantiques.co.uk/chinese-social-media/
If you have a look through their list of items deemed fake, you will see that a lot of them are actually authentic. http://www.chineseantiques.co.uk/category/treasure-trash/
Some authentic items deemed as fake:
Has anyone heard of this 'Dr Wang'?
Best wishes.
Dr Wang is probably Irv,fed up of the swamping of Ebay with fake items.
I assumed it was Irv but didn't want to say. I saw that a while ago he did a similar thing but took it down after a backlash, perhaps this is a shield from accountability. This being said there is no way of saying for sure that is Irv so I won't make any personal accusations.
I do agree that eBay has a lot of fakes and I like seeing them called out (One of the things I like about Peter), but if you are making accusations you have to make sure they are correct. A lot of the items deemed faked are authentic.
Best wishes.
I think that Irv runs the website, or at least somebody called Irv used to write posts on that website about fakes on eBay.
Best wishes.
Old Master Antique isn't a fraudster.
I have viewed the site and it is possibly targeted at Chinese buyers, it is just a front for tiger antiques .com. They appear to be based in the Uk and may be trying to sell overseas to china.
Just another way to upset the competition and act as a middleman to chinese buyers. Economic tort if there was ever one.
Yeah some of the sellers mentioned are not fraudsters in my opinion. Also some of the items deemed fake are authentic.
Dear Forum members,
I had a look at this website where sellers declared to be fraudsters have been listed.
In fact, the situation is a little more complicated than the list suggests, requiring some discrimination. I fully agree that welshsufi2011 is dodgy, and for sure ecliptic_art is; I've called her out for selling fakes repeatedly on this Forum, so I'm glad to see this website also blacklisting her.
However, certain other of the sellers listed strike me as not being fraudulent, or perhaps rather, that if they do end up selling any fakes, they may genuinely not be aware of the fact. This scenario is quite possible and likely. Some sellers on eBay don't know as much about what they are selling as their potential bidders do. And here's a case in point: Joshua Chamberlain of Chamberlain Antiques (eBay seller juice1499, who is also cited as dodgy on this website list) sold to me some years ago a pot that he said was marked with a Yongzheng reign mark. It isn't marked Yongzheng, it's marked with a Zhengde reign mark. I suspect that Mr Chamberlain, at that stage less well acquainted with the nature of what he was selling, got confused by the Chinese character zheng, a character common to both names, and opted for the wrong name. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing (though over the years, it doesn't seem to have done Mr Chamberlain much harm; a different outcome, however, for some of those who have been led into buying from him on the basis of an inaccurate listing).
So in certain cases, it may not be a mere black-and-white issue of fraudulent sellers versus honest sellers. Would that things were so simple. The situation can sometimes be more complicated than that. Certainly, eBay provides us with heinous sinners and holy saints all jostling together in one place. But alongside these, a good number of sellers obviously don't really understand what they're doing when they list and describe the items they sell. And a final observation about Mr Chamberlain: he's an astute business man, astute enough to have at least some of his inventory checked out by people who really do know what they're doing. When he can call on the expertise of others in this way, the chance of him selling himself short on account of his own personal shortfall of knowledge is necessarily reduced. That's doubtless why he does it.
Regards,
Alan
Hi Shortdong,
you said that "Old Master Antique isn't a fraudster. "
I didn't know about this selelr and then had a look at what he is selling.
Talking only about porcelain items (I do not know the rest) his items can be divided in two categories:
A) New items that are not directly claimed as being antique, but just suggested in the premise of the description
B) Obvious fakes claimed to be antique.
No doubt about that. I don't know why you think that he is reliable. Are you referring to a particular item, or something that you bought from him?
Giovanni
Hi Giovanni and Short Dong,
On the subject of items on offer from oldmaster I have had a look at said site and 2 of the following are NOT GENUINE full stop!
1. A old jade lidded statue that does not scratch under said test. Well it is not jade, it is bowenite. Wrong colour and translucency for nephrite. BTW you can not scratch bowenite especially if it has been highly waxed. Old? No it is modern
2. Listed as a old high quality jade bangle dating from 1920-1960. This is not jade and if you look carefully at the picture you may even see a bubble. If this was high quality as stated it would not be set in silver. Absolute rubbish being on offer for just a few dollars
Mark
Just to confirm what he does with porcelain...
Thank you Mark
Giovanni

Hi Giovanni,
Well I guess I am wrong, also i was reading the previous thread about Chamberlain ( juice1499) so I guess the Chinese tiger has got it almost right.
Old Master was on my saved sellers list. So my mistake 🙁 apologies. I will have look alot closer at his item's ( which i rarely buy because he is overpriced anyways) but I like to follow the auctions to learn.
I read this thread with interest, as I have certainly bought fakes from a lot of the above mentioned ebay sellers... However, the web link page ( http://www.chineseantiques.co.uk/chinese-social-media/ ) now appears to have been removed, as I'm getting the following message:
