I also hope that my friends will like this plate as much as I do.

That is very attractive.  Please can you explain why you feel this could be as early as Yongzheng?  I hope it is ok to ask, it is just that it looks more like 19th c to me, so maybe I need to do some more learning. 😊

The painting on celadon and the rather sturdy body look like Canton export from the first half of the 19th century to me. An unusual and fine pattern though.

@shinigami I agree: 19th century. Very nice, especially with the feet and ogival rim.

I truly apologize, but it is impossible for me to explain the dating of this piece in just a few sentences. Such judgments require extensive firsthand experience and long-term connoisseurship. Just as an ordinary viewer may regard an exquisitely made official kiln piece as “looking brand-new,” misconceptions are understandable.

No offense at all to friends who may have doubts about this work—I genuinely appreciate you—but I prefer not to elaborate further, as a proper explanation would involve many different aspects. This is also why, in the antiques market, some people occasionally “pick up a sleeper.”

To a professional antique dealer, however, this plate is a piece that is very straightforward to read. Similarly, some people believe that all Yuan dynasty blue-and-white pieces must be worth a fortune, and this is also something I do not intend to explain in detail.

Authentic identification techniques are typically shared only within small, experienced circles, as this has become an unwritten rule in the antiques community.

I am truly grateful for everyone’s interest in the pieces I post. Thank you all.

The most precise and academically appropriate way to describe the dating of this plate is: from the Yongzheng period to the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty.

I have already indicated it this way in the title.

@julia

If there is an opportunity in the future, I will be happy to share with you privately my insights on how I determined the dating of this plate. Here, I simply share pieces from my personal collection that I enjoy—please, please do not be upset.

That doesn't upset me at all that you don't want to explain publicly, but I did find your first post a little dismissive. Which makes me think, I am sometimes too polite as to be more precise, I agree with Birgit's more direct assessment.

A discussion would have been interesting.

@julia

I do not speak English, and I rely on translation software to convert my Chinese into English.

Therefore, when I read everyone’s comments and when I reply, the meaning can only be approximate.

I would like to repeat once again that, because of the language barrier, if any of my expressions were inaccurate and caused misunderstandings, please forgive me.

Using translation software for technical terms in ceramic authentication never produces good results, which is why I prefer not to say too much.

I would never feel resentment or contempt toward friends whom I have never even met.

Still, I must say sorry to you — my reply has caused a misunderstanding.

My apologies!**

Alright, let me briefly explain. This is a douqing-glazed famille rose porcelain. The first aspect to examine is the enamel decoration, considering the distinctive characteristics of famille rose across different periods. Next, one should carefully observe the glaze, paying close attention to the specific traits of douqing glaze from each era—though, in fact, the differences are very subtle. Of course, the vessel form is also a critical factor. Only when these three aspects are thoroughly understood can one make an accurate attribution.

Thank you, Tony. Your apology is accepted. 😊 Thank you also for the brief explanation, I will do some research to learn more but for the moment, I will stick with a 19thc date.

It's a very beautiful bowl.

Based on what I can see the enamels are not consistent with Yongzheng period nor Qianlong.

The presence of iron spots in addition to the enamels makes me think this lotus bowl is from the later 19th Century.

@imperialfinegems

Thank you all for the kind compliments on my plate and for the discussion. The misunderstanding caused by my language limitations actually turned out to be a good thing, because it encouraged more communication between us. Due to these language barriers, I will try to speak less and read more of everyone’s discussions in the future, as translation software is not always as accurate as we hope. Love you all! I really enjoy this platform. I won’t @ each friend who took part in the discussion individually.
