This is the seller that the $9600 bowl sold from so I investigated and found this scam it’s what I predicted running up items to caught a fish.
@jbeer2121 something is not right if the moon flask sold yesterday I watched this auction finish and then a same flask shows up for sale in China it’s the same photos and description for auction in a listing in China. I don’t think slander is an issue when the facts speak for themselves. Something is pooky.
Well done Brian - I venture to say few of us could even search Ebay China. It does seem to make a handicap for us in so many ways. Perhaps is also says that these sellers believe they will get more money using an English site versus their China listings (just a guess).

I think people are getting more desperate since so much of the authentic supply is off market. It's a liability to specialize too much.
Sorry, I don't know what running up items to catch (?) a fish means. So fake buyers run up the price, do they actually pay for it? Or just try to re-sell it for a higher price? Then pay? I am a bit confused, it isn't a term I know.
Jeremy, that is why I removed my comment, yesterday. 😊
Hi Julia,
I think the strategy is... fake bidders run up the price, waiting for a "fish" to place a bid, at which point the fake bids cease. The theory being that somebody will see all the bids and think the item must be very good. If there is no real bid, they might cancel the auction before it ends? Not sure on the strategy in that case. My guess is that all the accounts are deleted in a week or two.
take it with a grain of salt
A strange case. The fact that it's sold and shipped worldwide from China should be proof enough that it's a fake. The Ebay entry is identical in both cases. The only explanation that I have is that they use the same entry over and over and when you win you get a very similar fake vase but not the real one from the pictures, which could well be authentic in my opinion. By the way the Chinese seller seemed to deal mainly in motocycle parts.

That is strange… same item being run at the same time, but possibly 1 sale is legitimate (the one in Chelmsford MA USA) and the other in China is the scam (they copied the photos and ran a bogus Ebay sale)….maybe?
But, the moon flask is not fake. It’s Guangxu…. average quality for non M&P pieces.
What’s going on is simple because I have seen another organization on eBay on the west coast doing this. A legit item goes up for sale the seller list the item for very low to get bidders involved now you have bidders the seller has family or friends in other locations to start bidding it up. Less experienced bidders think it’s a great piece with all the activity. But sometimes the sellers bidders will go to high and the other bidder will drop out. Then the item is moved to another account in a different location and the here we go again the process is the same. The item is most likely in the United States.
All very strange. The winning US bidder had 240 previous buys, so is probably legitimate, as seemed to be many of the other bidders. Peter has recommended this seller's items a number of times in the past, if I recall correctly. I would speculate that the buyer was Chinese, and was reselling immediately in China in anticipation of a higher price except -- the Chinese auction started on July 1 and the US auction ended on July 5. Definitely a need for investigation!

As I can’t prove what’s really going on I know being involved in the US auction something was a miss it started with a bowl that I knew was clearly not a $9600 hundred dollar bowl. A bowl I was bidding on was also strange as the bids came fast and furious and the bowl sold for way over its value. So something was a miss. Now if a Chinese buyer bought the bowl to sell to the Chinese market the listing would not be in English. Plus it takes over a month or longer to get anything into China. I’m going to just be more cautious.
This bust made for Napolean's sister, and with good provenance, sold today for less than double this amount. I would run away from Asia before spending any money on that bowl.
