Hope you don't mind me sharing about an antique that's not Asian.
Saturday I bought a bit of a pig in a poke in the form of a banjo clock with no photos of back or interior (it was offered along with a Victorian mantle clock frame); no one was bidding and I impulsvely did, so I got it for $100 (plus a whole lot more for shipping!).
It seems to have a 20th century face although the body seems old - or is it purposefully stressed and coated to give it an aged patina? I've read that there are a LOT of fake antique banjo clocks out there. The seller didn't say if it worked or not; I'm hoping there's a clock body in that box! I don't know enough about antique clocks to tell, and maybe one can't just from the facade. It was a bit of a stupid gamble on my part, I know.
Obviously I'll know more when it arrives.

I also buy non Asian things when I'm out looking when something catches my eye. Last week I bought a big folk art wooden bust of a mother cradling a child. It's carved out of one piece of wood. For $60 how could I resist? Good luck with your clock.
@steve With that crackled bubbled up finish, like it was near a heat source or in a fire, it will be interesting to see the real thing, maybe there will be a maker's mark somewhere, maybe on the movement if it has one. You will be able to see if it has an enamel face or paper. Maybe it is part of colonial revival made popular by Wallace Nutting in first quarter of 20th. The folk looking painting, like rose maling, piece may have been gussied up by owner, I did some of that in the seventies. It will be like a surprise bag seeing what you get. Bonne Chance, Sharon
@steve I looked at Ansonia and Wallace Nutting examples without finding one exactly like it, with luck maybe it will be stamped on backboard, somewhere in Conn. and in this case not China or Japan.
Might it be a Gilbert clock? There's on on Ebay with a very similar case and deocration, except with a marked face.

Side note: at this auction there was a Coalport porcelain cup and saucer of a Rococo style that looked Edwardian but because the "Coalport" stamp on the bottom said "1750" the auction house said it was 18th c. Guess how much it went for? $1200. Unless I'm missing something, someone thought they were buying an 18th c. cup and saucer. Ouch.
Yes, a rather typical design for these clocks. The clock dealer told me this clock had undergone some restorations. The throat glass piece is also a typical design motif, but I have always wondered if it actually belongs with the other reverse painted glass piece. It’s interesting that a cottage industry grew up around this glass painting technique which was frequently done by young women.
