Do you guys think this is well rendered I mean painted or just me. I think it’s kinda funky with the monkeys I just don’t know what to make of it really. It didn’t cost much so no harm.
I like the monkeys and the exterior, the pine bark in center interior seems rather strange like an octopus, but yes, overall pretty.
For a Wucai piece, the depiction of crane and monkey seem oddly out of place. Those feel to me to be the kind of depictions found on 19th c. famille rose type vessel.
The black line work looks stiff… all the lines of equal thickness, rather than lines that taper to very thin, and disappear in places.
The blue clouds are very loose, and the hand that painted them was unsteady in parts.
The bat border and the bottom lappets seem to be a mixture of designs from different styles and periods.
I guess I would say that no individual aspect is rendered poorly, but it seems to be quite a mishmash of styles.
In addition to Tim @greeno107 this is not a old bowl. Its IMO a copy.
Still it's okay for a study piece.... and look's rather funky.

The monkey was often used in the monkey, wasp and deer pattern. They seem to have taken the monkey in his typical gesture and replaced the wasp by a crane.
The combination of shiny surface and dirty looking footrim makes me think it could be modern.

@lotusblack The flattened ovals on the example of pine bark on Birgit's example is similar to the flattened ovals on your example, just more of them, cute bat above the grooming monkeys, so do you think more eighties or earlier?
Here is another side of the monkeys. Sharon I’m not really sure of the age but it has traits of being an older piece and traits of not being old at all so a comparable is needed to figure this bowl out.
@lotusblack Brian, you didn't show that group of monkeys in your earlier photos. If you had, I think you would have gotten more definitive response as to the cup's age and quality.
What the heck is going on between the two monkeys and that poor crane?
I'm trying to write something constructive, but I'm laughing too much, and every time I go to write, all I can think of is completely inappropriate. Sorry... I know we all have our moments of weakness that leads us to making bad buys.

Well, as you said, if it didn't cost much, then there's no harm.
Cool! I like the monkeys. I once saw a famille rose vase with giraffes, elephants and the like. Made in a 19th century style, probably intended to deceive. I still regret not buying it.

@greeno107 I got this bowl in an auction lot of 20 pieces they cost about $3 a pieces so yes I paid very little just making sure I don’t list something for $25 bucks worth $200. This was strictly purchased for resale I don’t collect these style items. I have a booth in an antique mall these sell well due to price point and I make quick returns. These items last year brought me over $8000 in profits so decor is profitable.

@lotusblack I don't think it will be long in your booth, people like their cousins, from reaction to Darwin, "well, I'll be a monkey's uncle." The monkey show (really chimpanzees) at the Marlon Perkins (Wild Kingdom) directed St. Louis Zoo, was the most popular when I was a child, not sure if they even allow those shows any longer.
