Hello George
Here apare like it Japanes https://www.orientalfurnishings.com/japanese-satsuma-flutted-vase-with-handles
hope this help
John
I concur with John's post and sentiment therein. Japanese for sure. Not great quality.
BTW interesting link John.
Mark
thank you both
i thought so but worth a double check 🙂
George
I disagree, They are most definitely Chinese.
They are most like from the Royal Satsuma Chinese range. ...Around 1980 onwards. They are older which you can tell from the Red factory number on the base, that factory number is most certainly Chinese.
Even the Link John provided that says Japanese porcelain, those vases are modern Chinese products available on alibaba for $1 a piece per 100 batch.
The quality of real Japanese Satsuma is unmistakable and far superior in every respect except size and the Chinese style is also very obvious. As the vases you have are the older versions and most likely Chinese Royal Satsuma then they are better quality. They would sell for alot more.
They can be older than 1980 depending on the brand, but late 20th century they definitely are.
Short Dong (sorry, don't know your name) is right: the vases in John's link are Chinese. When I open the link, the tab is headed Chinese porcelain and the description clearly says Japanese-style.

John
The second one while it describes they as Japanese, it is incorrect they are actually Chinese and should be described as Japanese style.
However the Vases that George posted are definitely Chinese.
Hello, Julia, Short. Dong
Yes it a department store that handles imported goods from Asia & Mexico
and Short dong if you look at the red circle and the number if you turn you see it's
a vase that look like a 8 i have seen this on Japanese pieces. This is what the number pieces in
Chinese look like form the 1980 to now
this is what they look like from 1950 to 1960
I'm not saying his vase is not Chinese but to me it look more japanese than Chinese .
but with modern Chinese and Japanese copying each other it getting hard to tell.
Thank,John
ah i see, thank you short dong! when you say they are worth a lot more, im guessing they are still not worth much being fairly modern, but have some value as large decorative pieces?
George
George,
Yes alot more than the vases from Alibaba might. As they are at least coming into vintage.
I'm not sure it helps to call these Chinese vases , if they are manufactured in China for a Japanese company ... it's like saying VW cars made in Shanghai are Chinese cars.
Also , although in England stuff from the 1960s/70s and maybe 1980s is being called 'vintage ', it's because it captures the period and represents that era. These vases are copies of earlier vases or decorative items and say nothing about the 1980s, so whether they are made in the 1980s or yesterday , is not going to affect their value much.
