Just wonder people's opinions on this Brush pot. I did buy it but I saw it last minute and didn't get a chance to post it first so I was wonder what everyone here thought?
It looks descent to me, and though it is hard to make out in the pictures there are inscised lines at top and bottom as I'd expect to see.
Thanks.
Jeremy

Not my field but it looks nice. Blurred looking underglaze blue is sometimes a sign of printing so I would advise you look at it with at least a 20x loupe when you hold it in your hand and search for the little dots of screen printing. Just to make sure.
Birgit
This one like Birgit is not field atm.
The interior looks manufactured. The glaze/enamel looks a bit soft.
Perhaps if @xin_fawis logs in he may be able to enlighten us all. It's his area.
Personally I think it's highly probable to be a copy. But I hope I wrong for your sake.
Mark
I looked yesterday and just wasn't certain about this. I thought yours is nicely done, but there is a lack of distinction in the drawing. The Christies one seems more confidently painted and all the design is very definite and clear - I think that all relates to Birgit's comment about blurriness. The Christie's colour is better but that difference may have a good reason.
What struck me most was how identical yours is to the Christies version, like it has been copied, which would explain the apparent lack of confidence.
Obviously, this is not my area either and I just don't know. I simply voicing doubts which may have no basis, but like Mark I suspect it may be a copy.
It is also worth considering, given this is an experienced seller, why he put it on ebay and why more people didn't bid. The Christies example is there for all to see.
Sorry dear Jeremy, it is a copy.
As said by Julia, the “hand” is not there.
And the base too is off.
Regards
Giovanni
PS: I fully concur with other comments made by Julia. Beware on eBay!
Hi Jeremy -
Concur with Birgit, Mark, Julia and Giovanni, this is a copy of a well known composition ‘washing the elephant’ ...
Attach images for comparison of an underglazed blue brush pot, H. 19.5cm from Butler Family Coll and a wucai guan, H. 29cm, private Coll ...
Note the differences in painting style, detailing, shading and cobalt application between these two examples and your piece ..,
Stuart
Thank you everyone,
The main reason I had posted here, albeit to late, was all of the doubts you mentioned above were creeping into my mind. As I said a very last minute bid for me, so too little analytical thinking went into it. I have been under a bit of pressure recently to find a few transitional pieces for a customer at the shop, and I messed up date wise on the one Xin had listed and did not increase my bid.
I have started the cancellation process, so hopefully it will be resolved.
Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Jeremy
Hello, Jeremy
why don’t you get Peter to look at for you and get his thoughts if it not what they stated you can file a claim an get your money back. John

The buyer from China didn't pay. I decided to relist my vase for a short time. It's a private link below.

Great news Jeremy!
If I were you and you still wanted a genuine transitional piece I would go for the one @xin_fawis has on offer.
It's a fantastic example. I believe once it's properly restored it has huge potential. I have seen others not quite as badly damaged but severely damaged enough that have sold for over £7k.
More importantly you are unlikely to find another one. Especially at this price!
A unrestored/undamaged one would imo command in excess of £40k.
Mark
Thanks Mark,
I am glad it worked out too. One of these days I will learn not to make rash decisions.
I have purchased it and I am extremely excited to hold it in my hands on day soon, I know I said I have a customer who wants something like this, but it may have to stay with me for a while...
I am extraordinarily grateful to @xin_fawis for his help with this, and the forum as a whole.
Cheers,
Jeremy
