This was sold by Doyle as "Late Qing" but a friend of mine says this is a modern copy.
What are your thoughts? thanks
The pictures blur when I expand them.
Doyles are fairly reliable in their descriptions.
I am inclined to think that the dating is correct.
How big and how much did this sell despite the repairs?
Mark
@imperialfinegems Hi Mark, I bought it for $1,100 (excl. premium) and it is 18.5 inch in height.
Sorry for the blurry pics, it looks okay on my side.
I am getting blurriness, too.
From what I can see, the faces do look a little strange and what is that worn looking area in the central blue band, just above the mountain and trees?
These may be perfectly fine, but I can't see clearly enough to be sure.
It does have a dirty foot, too, but again, that may be ok. Did your friend explain why they had doubts about the given age ?
@julia @imperialfinegems I have added the pictures on Postimage for ease. Not sure what is the issue here.
That resolved the patch in the central border, but I am still not convinced by the faces and the rather 2 dimensional/static appearance of the polychrome area.
Personally, I don't think it is late Qing, I would have said this could be second half of the 20th c, maybe 1950s to 80s but I could be wrong.
How big is it?
I found these:

The second one at least looks genuine, but the pictures are poor.
Please let us know what Peter thinks.
The additional pictures are slightly better but still I cannot see the faces correctly.
I think it's either a Republic period example or later.
You may need to wait until you actually have it in your possession so we can see better pics.
Mark
@fkarov I also would want to see better close up pictures, but I have doubts about its' authenticity based on what I can see. The colors don't look correct to me. So unfortunately I am inclined to agree with Julia and your friend for now unless better pictures can tell a different story. Hopefully I'm wrong. Let us know what Peter says. John
Difficult to see as the pictures resolution is too low and they blur when expanding. The black of beards and shoes looks very intense which could mean late Republic or later. Impossible to say without a clear closeup picture of the people.
Birgit
I am adding these two close up on the faces, if that helps. I will let you know what Peter thinks. Thanks all!
The enamels look modern to me flat in color. But this could be the photos and lighting also.
I got the review by Peter and he is 100% confident this is Republic Period 1920-30's. He said how the work is done, the colors, and the foot rim (with trace of oxydation) are all matching with Republic Period. Doyle advertised the item as late qing but Peter also said there is not much difference between Late Qing and Early Republic.
@fkarov congratulations I’m sure Peter gets very high resolution photos. It’s hard to judge something when the resolution is so low. I think it’s a good buy.
