I bought these to vases while traveling yesterday in a small town in the Rockies (Colorado) the seller told me they came from old estate. I would have passed on them if it wasn’t for them being so cheap. We have been talking a lot about republic period fakes so here is a live pair to look examine.
Looks to be a reproduction … lines are thick and stiff, faces all the same, objects are rendered sloppy.
@greeno107 are you saying these don’t have the fine quality of republic period. Lol. Maybe the family had a bunch of twins
@lotusblack what does the base look like? Any stamps or paper labels? The script is pretty and they are a mirrored pair of large ginger jars, so there should be some value there, at least to a decorator. The eighties will come back with a vengeance, can't wait long for it to happen, dust off that green silk blosson blouse with giant shoulder pads. Sharon
@sharonp I saw a pair like this listed as Republic and sell for $2600. Lol Yes you are collect these will bring money as decor only as I will not miss lead anyone one of the reason I sell modern so well is because I tell buyer the truth and don’t try to screw them. These 1970/1980 vases will be desired to new generation: At a fraction of republic prices. I will show pictures later of the aging of this vase you will laugh.
@greeno107 I’m thinking earlier than 1990 but not by much but 2000 could be correct I think the faking of the base will pin point dating. But either way they are reproduction in my opinion intended to deceive.
These are pictures of aging method. Maybe this helps narrow the date.
@lotusblack Those are some very strange looking ‘knife’ marks….. Looks like very modern work trying to copy the style of Qianjiang….Wait! I already said that- LOL!

@greeno107 lol modern decor at its finest. I always wondered why they did this aging when if they had left it alone it would have been much better as a contemporary pair. At least I got them very cheap

These pair of mirror image vases are a attribute of sorts to the Qianjiang style of work. But wrongly depicted/painted as observed by greeno107
In particular they are in the style of famous artist MA QINGYUN.
They are obviously not by him. They have very odd looking heads!
Circa later 20th century. Its irrelevant to try and pinpoint either 80's or later.
Still I have seen much worse recently!

Thanks guys they do have big heads. Lol I will sell as later 20th century reproductions. At $50 bucks for the pair I really can’t lose. As designers are always looking for home decor.
Im thinking these would make great lamps what do you guys think?
Personally I wouldn't convert them. They look just fine as they are for decorators/other.

Is the kiln grit faked as well? It looks kind of weird so I'm guessing it is.
