I am assuming this little plate (7.5" across) is Meiji; it certainly looks like other Kutani examples I find online. Just wondering about the maker--not only is the mark microscopic, but it is incomplete. Can anyone offer help?
It is interesting to me that the painter apparently scratched something out of the painting (to the right of the duck), prior to applying the white flocking, which overlays the surface scratches...

Wow, very nice dish, with the snow falling on the lake, quite pretty. For me, the artistry is well above average for this type. I don’t remember seeing a similar one. Looks like Meiji or slightly later. Also, not sure about the mark.

Very nice plate. Think more Satsuma than Kutani but that's a very deep rabbit hole to go down. I am sure we have seen that mark in the forum before with what looks like a western numeral 4 can't quite bring it to mind perhaps somebody else will have better recall. The motive of Mandarin Ducks in winter was used by some Satsuma Masters to great effect. I have an image of a vase by Yabu Meizan saved somewhere but can't find witch folder I have it in sorry.
Anyway a nice item to start the year with.

That would definitely make it onto my kutani collection shelf. It has all the bells and whistles....interesting indented / foliated plate form, delicate and detailed enamel work, restrained and natural subject matter with madarin ducks (the female half submerged feeding) in a gentle snow, and a pair of song birds huddled together on a branch.
Carefree.... you are transformed instantaneously when you gaze upon the plates subtle beauty.
@brettm People have been advised with a western 4 in their house number to change their address to appeal to Chinese buyers because of the similarity to the Chinese symbol for death. I do not know if that is true or not, maybe falls in urban legend category. I have no problem with the number 4, now the number 6 is not a favorite. Since this piece is a winter scene, maybe it is not a western 4.
@brettm Good to know since my happiest addresses featured a 4, which is probably why people enjoyed pointing that out to me. Some people, open mouth insert foot, repeat.

Wow, thanks, everyone for the comments. I loved it when I saw it, and am glad that I have learned enough to recognize quality!
Here is the mark, flipped to the right orientation. Alas, I think there isn't enough there to identify even right-side up. I thought it was a stamp, but maybe it is hand-drawn, and the incredibly tiny lettering is intended to show the skill of the painter?

@kirby13 I'm not sure how much help these photos will be, but my vase has the same unusual indented/foliated mouth as the rim of your plate. My mark is also different, but perhaps there are some characters that some of the other members can draw on to decipher your mark.
