Hi, the mark is indeed a Xuande mark but one that looks modern. Printed or stamped. Never trust a mark. For more information you could show the item on which you found it.

Thank you for the pictures. It's a recent vase. Given the very uniform blue color it is probably printed.

@shinigami i see, thank you. could the shade of blue really be a reason for it being modern? i've seen some that have a similar shade of blue but i'm still not sure. I should take a photo in better lighting to see if it helps.

Here are some with similar shade of blue that i found

@clerene0141 After enlarging your pictures I admit it could be hand painted but the mark is surely printed.

@clerene0141 there are many subtleties about assessing these things. The tones of glaze and enamels is just one of many important aspects. To a beginner things can look very much alike, but to another person with more experience they will look very different. It takes time. You have to look at thousands of examples, study, learn from mentors, and handle as many pieces as possible. With experience, time and practice your eyes will begin to see the difference.

It may be worth checking out some of Peter's videos and blog posts. There is a particularly useful one about bases which will help you work out the old from the new. It takes a bit of time and I still get things wrong, but it really is a must if you are serious about collecting - or dealing.

@clerene0141

Hi - and as with Birgit @shinigami thank you for the images of the vase …

This vessel shape is called ‘bianhu’, in Chinese, flattered circular vase in English and was one of the new forms introduced at the Imperial kilns in the early Ming, Yongle period, and continued been produced until the end of the Xuande period, so 1435, when it was discontinued …

Note the differences in painting styles ie; the lotus scroll to the neck, individual detailing ie; the wave motif, and the technic/application of the cobalt tones between your vase and first image cited for comparison you posted when referring to ‘similar shade of blue’ …

Your vase is a modern copy of the early Ming type …

@ming1449 Thank you for sharing your thought. I'm hoping to speak to some more people on what they think as i think it's always best to hear different thoughts on this. i definitely noticed the difference but surely they're not made to look exactly the same?  It would be like comparing these two dish for example.

(the first one actually comes very close to the colour on my vase, it's a bit darker though)

Screenshot 2022 09 19 at 19.23.58

 The only thing really i'm unsure of is the mark because although it is a xuande mark, it doesn't look like any of the ones i've seen. i've never seen one with only 1 square. i've only seen marks with 2 squares or 2 circles. What do you think of the mark? I don't want to say it is a modern copy just yet. I'm hoping to speak to some more people first and see what others think.  I should keep studying it too . It could be a modern but i just don't know since i'm not a professional

Thank you!

@clerene0141 I appreciate your quest for knowledge. Thats where it starts. But your piece is definitely a modern copy. No question about it. Like I said before it takes time to figure out how to tell the difference. So for now you have to rely on others with experience for advice if you want to avoid making mistakes and wasting money. This forum is a great help in that regard. Also Peter offers his professional advice for $12 and that is also an amazingly useful resource.

Let me add that Stuart ming1449 is an expert on the field of Ming and Yuan porcelain. To me his knowledge is beyond doubt and he offers it for free.
