Hi Kenny,
Chinese porcelain dating to post 1970's. Wax seal present for purpose of export.
Colour of paste and figures indicate modern as does the dirty brown foot rim. Said foot rim is probably not dirt but from clay in order to give item age. If you try and clean said part and the rim remains the same a good indication.
Also has signs of foot rim being aged by artificial scrapping. No visual wear marks on remaining area of vase.
Mark
Ok thanks a lot Mark, I really appreciate your help! Kenny

I might be wrong, but in my eyes the vase looks ok for the 1920s. The painting style as well as some irregularities of the pottery in the lower part.
Birgit
Shinigami I was thinking older as well. The base and the electrical cord that was attached to it before I dismantled it looked to be older than 1970’s. I’m only a novice in the Asian arts world tho lol. Thanks for the help ppl.

Perhaps!
The fluted wide top of said vase would IMO make it very difficult to attach a stable fitting device suitable to be used as a lamp.
Often copied to give impression of vintage/antique item.
Authentic 19/20th century vases were often converted to lamps due to lack of supply of said.
I still don't like the base!
Of course I may be totally wrong in my assessment. I am not an expert. Just my thoughts.
Mark
I still can’t differentiate modern from early 20th for these with any confidence. But I can say that the base looks almost painted on to my amateur eye.
Todd
take it with a grain of salt
It seems in this case the clay was brownish as you can see where the hole is drilled. I have a 1929 dated vase with an identical looking surface.
Birgit
It had a patina looking brass cap that fitted perfectly over the fluted/flanged top of this vase and a dark brown colored wooden base.

I was holding back on posting my opinion because this was super confusing 🙂
The Chinese wax export stamp would suggest it was considered an Antique. The Chinese definition is narrow to cover some republican.
The issue with the brown footrim and the drilled hole, however makes the export stamp seem contrived.
As for the actual appraisal of the art, well that is where I do not have the expertise. I find it impossible to distinguish between 1950's Chinese art and 1920's. So this is why i felt posting my opinion too early would be unhelpful. However I feel the stamp is genuine and that it still could be a 1950's vase 😉 because i am sure it is hard for the authority to be certain either.
I am sure you will find out some day.
My 1928 vases had an export stamp too, as well as two hatstands from 1920. I guess they exported a lot of Republic items with this seal. Here's what Gotheborg says about it:
Birgit
Kenny,
Vase is late 1920's-30's. I have the same vase 23" without jian ding mark and without drilled hole. Mine varies slightly from yours, but basically same design. What is unusual is that mine has same artist's signature in the leftmost line of text and strokes match 100% artist "Liu Ho Yi" matches. As mine is definitely original from late 20's I would have to disagree with Mark and say that yours dates from same period as mine, also remembering that drilling holes for lamps was popular in 20's and 30's. Compare the two again.
George
Great gfhandel, I really appreciate the info from you and the others
