Found this today staring at me amid the various unremarkable items. To confirm, this is a genuine Emile Galle vase, is it not? Almost can’t believe it. Thanks, Todd

Hello Todd,

2021 is proving to be a great year for you.  The link below links the different Gallle signatures to dates. You may be able to date your find from it.

Michael.

Thanks guys! Wow, many articles on Galle. I have some work to do. I was able to figure out that it depicts trumpet flowers. Have not come up with a date from Michael’s article, but lots of useful information therein. Am pretty sure its real, not too worried about that anymore after viewing some fakes made in the 1990s. Still need to clean the interior. The previous owner was using it for flowers, and for quite a long time apparently. Hope it cleans out well.

Michael, Yes, I’ve found better things in the last few months than in the few years before that combined. 😋 I will keep at it.

Watership, be very careful with purchasing Galle. For every one authentic item there are hundreds of fakes.

I purchased this vase as a designer piece, knowing it’s a fake, it only cost me $40(Can.) here is what a fake looks like

4A1E3029 98E8 49C3 AE92 8A05C7ED42C0

Notice the flat ground mouth, should have a round grind mouth.

069D7813 383B 46A7 B2A3 993CBF6D60A0

and the bottom

notice how uniform the base looks.

561049C7 56DB 4F7B AAD8 F7CB831D3174

the vase feels a bit clunky and heavy, and the edges of the design are not crisp and clean.

By the way it still looks good with the sun shining behind it.

Hi Ron,

Ok, thanks for the information. I did a comparison using Martin’s link. I am no expert, but am very confident its genuine. It compares to Sotheby’s and Christies pieces very well. The 1990s Romanian items are quite different. To me, they look modern, which is what they are. There are lots of fakes, but I don’t think there are any really good ones (could be mistaken). The top rim is rounded, but the best evidence is the quality. If you could see it in person, I think you would agree. And its not even clean yet! 😋

Thank you John, Xin, Martin, Ron, Stuart!

Yes, this one felt good from the start. I think I muttered some exclamations upon picking it up, but I think I kept my voice low, aware that I don’t want to alert the shop in that way before I actually have gotten it in my possession. 😀
