@tonyatl The only thing unsettling about these things to me is the fact that I can't afford to buy them. Boy would they look good on my shelf....

lol - that makes 2 of us.

I'm missing something, what does the first piece posted look like and is it also from Bonhams?

Sorry I said it’s modern but I had no idea it’s from Bonhams. A foot like this is either modern or imperial quality and in 99.99% of the cases it’s modern. But I think you can trust Bonhams.

Same, shows how important it is to see the whole thing and have some context of the sale. Just knowing it was at Bonhams, without seeing anything other than the mark, would have raised the possibility of it being genuine, rather than lowering it. They aren't perfect of course, but are more likely to have genuine mark and period items than say, ebay.

@greeno107

Hi Tim -

This page of marks comes from the ‘Ethereal Elegance - Porcelain Vases of the Imperial Qing, The Huaihaitang Collection’, published 2007, first two images. The pieces illustrated are all zhuoqi [“cut and polished” wares] roughly equivalent to the Western ‘closed’ forms ie: vases, bottles and jars …

The ISBN number is:-

978-962-7101-84-0 …

Images 3/5 show the more recent ‘Chinese Ceramics from the Dawentang Collection’, 2019 publication. 2 Volls, first includes a few Tang, Five Dynasties, Song pieces but is mostly Ming, second is all Qing, most pieces are tribute/Imperial wares …

This publication includes all the latest research on marks, and is a wonderful reference for such

Only 300 copies printed, and its rather expensive, but ISBN number is:-

978-988-78398-2-8 …

Both publications are of private Hong Kong collections …

@zhtail -

Hi Yi -

Tim, Birgit and Julia are all correct in the comments made, one must look/try to come to some conclusion on the whole piece, and not concentrate on just one specific area such as the mark writing …

Both the KX/YZ mark images posted appeared to show the base glaze with a rather ‘white’ overall tone, this may be an incorrect balance in the images, or just the way they have appeared/been reproduced on our screens …

Bonhams should have done proper research on these pieces, but it is not unknown for mistakes or incorrect attributions to accrue, even in the major auction houses - anyone can make mistakes …

Hopefully, I should be in London  viewing Bonhams tomorrow with others, so should be able to see/handle these pieces. I will take some images and post …

@ming1449 There's a few copies out there on Amazon....just bought me one!  Worth every penny!  Thank you for sharing that information.

I'm going to impose, again, but not publicly. Could we talk via Email?  My email is [email protected] - no response to this posting is necessary.

Kindly,

Tim

@zhtail

Hi Yi and all -

Attached images re: pair of Yongzheng dishes and Kangxi bowl …

I viewed with three other gentleman, two of which have been in this business for over 45 years so very experienced …

No issues with the pair of YZ dishes. The KX bowl caused somewhat divided opinions. It has some damage, undoubtedly reflected in the estimate and, after much handling/discussions, one was prepared to give it the benefit of doubt, another was none-committal, and two really did not like at all, citing the ‘overall feel, execution of the dragons and mark writing’ …

What do you all think about this:

https://www.christies.com/lot/a-wucai-and-doucai-dragon-dish-yongzheng-6096837/?intObjectID=6096837&lid=1

I know it's been 5 years, but does Bonhams estimate make sense?

Welcome to the forum, singing kettle. I guess it could be set to entice bidders in a difficult economic period?

@singingteapot

Hi - and as with Julia, welcome to this great forum …

Pairs, especially if Imperial mark and period, will always be estimated significantly higher then a single example …

Qing Imperial wares are very much ‘in vogue’ presently, and therefore highly sort after …

The Christies example cited may also have had some damage and/or restoration, something that can significantly reduced the estimate …

Thanks for the welcome, Julia! I guess we shall see. As Peter noted, the last Sotheby's sale had mixed results....

@ming1449

Thanks for the welcome, Stuart! Hmm...I've noticed too that antique prices can be quite cyclical, but you're right that the condition of the Christie's plate is unknown. I overlooked that possibility...
