This is online for sale  in Switzerland the seller claims it Chinese but i have my doubts , the blue looks to pale and the absence of traditional symbols and decor patterns make me think its European French or so ...what do other members think

The decoration looks to be in my opinion a mix of both Chinese and Japanese themes.

But I do not think it's either and probably made in Europe kiln.

I don't think this is very old.

I wouldn't buy this one.

Interesting and decorative. It could be old Delft. How much does he want for it?

After looking at a book I'm almost convinced it's 18th century Delft. Probably once had a lid. A steal for 60 EUR, even with chip and hairline. Not for me because I don't buy damaged pieces, but thanks for the offer.

I think 18th c Delft would have a lot of fitting and be noticeably tin-glazed. I agree it is European, but more likely the later part of 19thc, maybe French as Martin suggests, or  possibly Belgian.

Just found something similar:

Question why is my Vase not glaced on the bottom 17 and early 18 cent delft vases have no glaced bottom perhaps they did stand on a wooden stand just like the Chinese Vases

here some screenshots 1. the Boch vase 2. my Vase 3. the 18 cent delft

look at the mosquito most likely butterfly

The Lady on the Boch wears an elegant Hat !!Chinese woman with a Hat never heard of it.

Does the neck/mouth of your vase look like that? Maybe I just didn't see it. That is the type of look of old tin-glazed pottery that I was referring to.

Chinoiserie was a response to the demand and fascination with Chinese Export ware, frequently the design was based on imagination and artists' impressions of how they thought it should be.

I am sure if we could handle it, we would know if it were 18th c Delft. I think also the probability is that the base would be glazed and a piece like this would be marked.

That is just my opinion obviously. I really like Delft, it is what I collected before moving to Asian Art, but I am so far from being any kind of expert and you probably know loads more than me.  All this talk of Delft is making me want some! I had my eye on a very cheap old lidless jar, I think I,will see if it is still available. 😊

@julia Dear Julia, sorry for being so stubborn with my claim. Instinct. I have been dealing with antiques for 25 years, so I have a sixth sense for certain things. I know the seller of the vase well. He has been involved with metal casting for a long time. He must have bought the vase because of the ormolu foot. The foot is stylistically from the Baroque period, so around 1750, I think it is a very classic form. Delft is completly new field for me its fascinating and probably difficult to understand. Keeping youre fingers crossed that I win the bid for the vase.  Kind regards Martin

You could find an earthenware item and test it? I am not sure all porcelain lets light through. Or does it?

Unfortunately my Delft plate is stored away. Maybe a plate would be too thick. I just tried different coffee mugs. Light only shines through the porcelain ones, regardless of the thickness.
