Hi everyone, I am in need of a little help identifying this little blue and white plate. On the back it says 7 1/4, Backwards B?and a capital F. Any help identifying it and the age would be greatly appreciated!!

Am not at all sure, but I would guess European. Looks to be printed, maybe 19th century. Hopefully someone more knowledgable can be more specific.

take it with a grain of salt
It is the famous blue onion pattern but there were different makers of the pattern in Europe, especially in Germany and England and I am not familiar with that mark. Sharon

Yours looks to be printed, so it may be hard to find out the manufacturer as these were made in many factories by the late 19th c. You may find some other examples with similar markings on line which may guide you, there will certainly be loads of information now you know the name of the pattern.

Though I looked in my 3 European mark books I couldn’t find an impressed F exactly like this. But I agree it’s a European printed copy of the famous pattern. Could be 19th century and probably English if the numbers mean the size in inch.

Definitely transfer printed. Does it have some weight? Could be ironstone. Notice the triangular spur marks in three places, I have never seen an arrangement like that. I wonder if this could not be modern delft or Staffordshire production.
@johnshoe I had Johnson Brothers rendition for my everyday dishes of this pattern when I married back in the Ice Age.
@ronm I found out that two Staffordshire potters used incised B F for marks B Floyd and Burmantofts, both 19th century ironstone type, but no example of what the mark looked like, so no idea if the b was a backward b or not. B Floyd ca. 1843 production and Burmantofts ca. 1880. Blue Onion is an old pattern and yes was probably copied in the Netherlands too, all influenced by the Chinese export most likely. It is not really an onion, that is what it looked like to the Europeans, so the pattern name stuck. I think it was called Blue Nordic by Meakin.
P.S. The Burmanstofts stuff online looks more to be Aesthetic Movement and they also produced tiles, probably for fireplace surrounds, right up your alley, but I found no example of plates, but I do think most likely Staffordshire.
Here’s a Meissen original from 1750, about 20 years after the onion pattern was introduced.
And this is one of the Chinese sources, a Kangxi saucer.

I’ve seen letters used for dating on WedgeWood plates. I believe WedgeWood did make this pattern.
Sharon, you may be on to something with your early 1800’s attributation. Before 1840 impressing the wares was common. The English diamond registration mark wasn’t enacted until 1840. In the early 1800’s the transfer process was realy starting to off. This blue and white may very well be Regency rather than Victorian.
I spent some time researching on ‘The Potteries’ site but could not find this particular back stamp either.
