Happy Tuesday All,

I found this little 5” vase yesterday at a thrift store and it has an artemisia leaf on the base.  Does it look like legit Kangxi or maybe a reproduction? The leaves are nicely outlined.

thanks for any information you may have.

cheers,

Nancy

Setting aside the mark for a moment...

The vase is famille rose with underglaze blue, and that did not occur until the Yongzheng, so it is not possible to Kangxi.

Given the popularity of Kangxi in the late 19th c., that would be a logical conclusion that the cute little vase you own is late 19th c. or newer.

I like it! The rich enamel work seems worthy of being called late Qing!  Nice find!

Hi Nancy, its a really beautiful little vase you have found.

I agree with Tim aka @Greeno107.

I dont think it's late 19th century ss in guangxu period 1875-1908. Empresa Dowager Cixi (1835-1908) was particularly fond of black birds to be depicted on porcelain. It is in my a high quality example from the later 20th century. It could be earlier. It would need to be handled and examined in person.

The leaf mark was a characteristic one during the Kangxi period. Often copied right up to today.

Mark

To many periods all in one on this vase. Shading looks modern on the flowers base looks sugary also. Reminds me of PROC the flowers on the brushes in older pieces tend to be pink. But the leaves are correct for late 19th century.

I would agree with a later 20th c date. And that it is a nice vase. 😊

Agree with Brian, the shading in the flowers is typical for PROC. Nevertheless a cute and decorative little vase.

The black birds were also used earlier. I have them on a Yongzheng cup.

@robinan Just to let you know, my assessment of late Qing was based mostly on the quality and what seems to be some fairy thick & bright enamels.

If you would post a clear close up photo of the pink and yello flowers (one photo) and the the bird (second photo), everyone should be able to make a more accurate assessment.

Best,

Tim

@robinan YUP! Brian is correct, sadly.....  you can see the dots in the enamel work from modern print like methods of applying the enamel.
