I profusely apologize, but these are the only photos I have. Does anyone think there might be age on this 8” bowl that looks like a large brush washer? Nice and rich dark green. A photo of the base will follow.
Base photo. A flat foot rim with oxidation around the glaze.
John and Birgit, thank you so much. That's what I was thinking, but the glaze is so nice on this that I didn't want to miss it if there were a chance. Much appreciated.
The iron ring (oxidation) ring throws me off too, any reason it could not be a forties-fifties brush washer as well as a bonsai planter, what is the give away? The curved over top lip would also be good as a brush washer (to prevent splashing), if it does not have age, then all academic, I like the surface too.
Does anyone have an old brush washer? Does yours have a horizontal luting line? Also, iron line is outside where the glaze meets the unglazed and the same for inside the foot ring. I guess those iron oxide lines can happen now, as well. But the luting lines? That’s confusing. It’s only 8 or 9 inches wide and a few inches tall.
@johnshoe Sorry to bother you, but now that I see a horizontal luting line I guess that would at least indicate hand made rather than mass produced?

@centralpapottery No, can't say that I have on Asian pieces and can't say that it is definitely Asian, some American potters were heavily influenced by the Japanese. I have a Tennessee piece that I at first thought was some Japanese Art Pottery, then finally found an example online and it turned out that an American Japanese potter (went through internent during the war) had worked at this place and the lady who founded the pottery said that her aesthetic was influenced by Asian pottery. @sharonp interesting. This is porcelain rather than pottery. The rim shows that the best. Also, I see my pictures are not really showing the true color. Some of the tea dust greens I see online are a little closer to mine... then there is that luting line. Actually, it's not mine yet, but I'm feeling I have to get it because of the glaze and take my losses if it has no monetary value.
@centralpapottery I found the information on mine, it was by Iron Mountain Stoneware Art Pottery, the founder of the pottery was Nancy Patterson Lamb at Laurel Bloomery, Tn. 1965-1992, their stuff was marked but the glaze had filled in the mark to the extent it could not be read, the base looked similar to your base and is largely the reason I thought it was Asian. Are you saying your piece is translucent porcelain? If you love the piece then you should have it.
P.S. The name of the Japanese-American potter who suffered internment during the war was Jim Kaneko, a signed and dated sculpture by him dated 1974 is for sale on Ebay at the moment, asking 700.00, I think I'm going to buy an old Texas map for 36.00 instead. Ha

Also, don't forget Europe, when I did a Google lens search on your base, it showed me some European pieces, Google lens is not always that terrific. If the person selling it is offering as Asian, then they may know something we do not. In any case, it is a pretty glaze and color on your piece and it has the shape of a brush washer. Best, Sharon
