A Handy Guide For Researching Late Qing to Republic Period Signatures
Late Qing-Republic Period Porcelain Signatures and Marks
Finding late Qing-Republic period porcelain signatures by known artists from that time can be difficult. Consequently, we thought it might be useful to share with our users a very good site who's author has taken the time to list and illustrate hundreds of them in alphabetical order. Some of you may already know this site, for those of you who don't, we highly recommend it.
Unlike earlier times, porcelain artists of the late Qing and through the Republic period often signed their works. They had taken up the tradition of earlier artists who painted scrolls and albums. While many have been copied as prices for these works have risen exponentially in the last 25 years, it's more important than ever to do careful research.
This interesting site hasn't been updated or added to for a few years, but has a wealth of information for collectors of late Qing and Republic period porcelain. I do hope the owner add more in the near future.
