FINE ASIAN WORKS OF ART AND PAINTINGS, December 19th
Dec. 19, 2016, 255 lots
The sale begins with the collection of the artist Lin Ting Yun (1914-2009) also known as Lin Xuzhen. During her lifetime she befriended and studied extensively with her teacher Zhang Daqian. She also collected (wisely) his paintings as well as those by Huang Junbi, Chen Fang and Lee Man Fong. For this sale her family has selected 17 painting from her collection.
Following the paintings is a good selection of fine Chinese furniture and scholar's objects. Comprising good Huanghuali chairs and tables, as well as an attractive coromandel screen. Not a large number of items, but some nice examples.
The sale also has a nice offering of good snuff bottles, jades and ceramics. Including a very nice and very large Dehua Guanyin figure (cover lot) being sold by the Monterey Museum of Art. One of my personal favorites in the sale is the large, probably Kangxi period ribbed baluster bronze vase with Chimeras. Its a BIG vase measuring 20 inches tall.
ASIAN DECORATIVE ARTS, December 20th
A more general sale of 528 lots and all are moderately estimated, which translates into very low reserves (if any). If you're an eBay seller or a collector on a modest budget this might be a good buying opportunity. There are some very nice "lots" of carved jades, Thangkas, numerous porcelains, bronzes and a large grouping of good 18th to 20th C. paintings. Also some good silks!.
So check out both sales, you might get some really good buys. Prices lately have been decidedly softer than a few years ago with the exceptions of the rarest fresh to the market objects. So take advantage!
