Auction of Chinese Fakes at Roswell Auctions This April | Opinion

April 12, 2020 By plcombs Leave a Comment

This month an auction of what looks to be all fakes and copies of Chinese "art". The sale is taking place at Roswell Auctions in Roswell Georgia at 1050 Northfield Ct. .

If you've never heard of the Roswell Auction gallery, you might recall a firm selling the same tripe at the same location with a different name and "Suite" number. We've talked about them in the past for selling similarly dubious material, remember Lauren Gallery! (and they threatened to sue us..for our opinion.)

As best as we can tell, they appear to be both one in the same. Roswell Auctioneers seems to be just another part of the Lauren Auction House operation. Same location, same consignors, same types of items, similar mis-descriptions. They do not as yet have a website that we can find, which is terribly odd.

Who The Heck Was Arlin Holmes?

Last year Lauren Galleries was selling a large number of things provenanced to a man named Arlin Holmes. This year, under the name of Roswell Auctioneers additional items purportedly belonging to Mr. Holmes (late) are again on offer.

We could find no one in the collecting world who had ever heard of him. Which seems impossible to us and would to anyone were he a collector of authentic items as rare and in such large numbers as those being sold. His collection would, if authentic, would represent the most important private collection perhaps in the world.

I dare say they would not be offered for sale by an auction house that has been in business for just year or so, with only a couple sales under their belt.

Be careful, this auction house is NOT the only one selling these copies, there are many others.
