Asian Art Auctions | Chinese Antiques on Ebay, what we find

Despite the dreck appears on eBay, many great things can also be found easily through our site's auction listing every single week.

Online Asian art auctions from sellers in the Netherlands frequently list fine 17th and 18th c. late Ming, Transitional, Yongzheng and Qianlong porcelains. This should come as no surprise as vast quantities of porcelain was brought there when it was NEW through trade with asia. Other auction sellers living in France, the UK, Portugal and Switzerland source and sell fine bronzes of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasty, on occasion earlier examples appear as well.

A Short History: How So Much Asian Art Reached The West

From the United States. auction sellers offer an wide ranges of Asian and Chinese antiques. Since the 18th C. Through the China Trade on the east coast, hundreds of tons of Chinese porcelains we imported right through the 1860's. A few decades later a second wave of Chinese art flooded American shores again as China's economy and the Imperial reigns of the Qing emperors collapsed.

This political upheaval made available not only to the US but Europe through networks of dealers and collectors vast quantities of the finest Chinese art and antiques extant. One need only visit the many Asian Art Museums in the US, UK and EU to see the result. The Museum of Fine Art, Boston; The MET, NYC; The British Museum, UK; The Guimet, Paris; etc. reflect the additions gained to their holdings during this time.

The good news for collectors today is that not everything went to museums! Larger quantities than those gained at that time by museums went to private collections up until 1949 when China fell to Communism when all legal exports stopped.  Today, these privately collected objects through the centuries continue to re-enter the market through private sales, auctions, consignments through antique dealers and yes, even yard sales. Is it any wonder there are so many Asian art auctions on eBay, it has to be sold somewhere!

From this history it's easy to understand and see how and why great items continue without any end in sight to the market. Much of it each year is sold through eBay.

We've Made eBay's Asian and Chinese Antiques Category Much Smaller and Friendlier

Finding good quality and desirable antiques in all areas of collecting has never been particularly easy. On eBay, due to the size of the site it can be particularly challenging.  The good news is, around the world at any given time, there are hundreds to perhaps 3,000 good to exceptionally rare Asian Art Auctions | Chinese Antiques actively listed on eBay every day.  You might just need some help in finding them, which is exactly what we do.

Sellers who list Asian Art Auctions | Chinese Antiques Collections on EBAY fall Into Several Category's

While it's tempting to go through how we break them all down to filter out the better and excellent items from the dreck and spot seller's who know what they are doing. Or how we find the accidentally lucky seller who scored at a local yard sale or thrift store and has done his/her best to describe the item without any real understanding of what it actually is. I would instead prefer to tell you a bit about who we view as THE GOOD SELLERS.

Currently we track over 200+ of them every day, while also spotting things arriving on eBay through pure good fortune including listings from lucky "yard sailors". We then, each week, publish their listings here on this site.

Who they are: The core of the best sellers eBay Sellers

They are located here in the United States, Great Britain and the European Union.

  • Many of them are currently or have been previously dealers with open shops and galleries (some very well known) for decades.
  • Others are retired auction house staffers who just love handling objects.
  • Many more are who those on the trade refer to as a "Dealer's-Dealer", these sellers are probably responsible for finding more great things a year than any other type of seller. The "Dealer's-Dealer"  are the guys and gals whoare always on the road, they attend dozens of estate auctions, "boot sales" and yard sales every month, year in and year out. You may not know them, but the high profile dealers and gallery owners know them, as well as the major auction houses around the world.
  • Some have done all of the above and are still active in one way or another in "the trade".

Why They Sell & Conduct Asian Art Auctions | Chinese Antiques Collections on eBay

It's pretty simple actually, eBay is despite it's faults and flaws a very efficient market. The Fee Structure is considerably lower than every auction house in the world. The turn around time from acquisition to sale is measured in weeks instead of months to a year. The prices realized are favorably comparable to other options. Selling on eBay also allows sellers to be off doing more business or relaxing while items are being sold. Once you develop a following, which does take a while,  a good dealer can do a enjoy a consistent volume of sales on the site.

How we Share The Asian Art Auctions | Chinese Antiques Collections on eBay We've Found

NOTE: Sellers who knowingly offer ONLY Outright Fakes, they can be based in Mainland China, The USA, Canada, the EU etc. We've listed a number of them already in another post under "Ebay Dealers Selling Fake Antiques" . We did not sellers in Mainland China who contribute to the problem, just assume 99.999% of the listings "Located In China" are total fakes.
