Mega International Auctions More Chinese Fakes Coming In September
Mega International Auctions More Chinese Fakes this September on the 9th to be exact. So run for your life.
While the proliferation of fakes and copies into the market continues unabated, folks are starting to avoid them. This can be seen in the results which overall are in an ever downward spiral of prices. That said, expect to see better and better copies trying to gain entry into the market.
Short Update:
The ALTAIR Auction Flopped
Recently we posted a blog regarding an auction of fakes being sold by ALTAIR Auctions in Norwood Massachusetts. To say it was a total flop, would be a kindness. Sure a couple things sold for more than they should have which is ZERO. Overall, they firm made virtually no money. If you had intended to bid but were deterred by our post, we are pleased to have helped.
Eden Auction, Unpaid Lots Plague Company After Auction
You may also recall, we did a post regarding the auction Eden Galleries ran a couple week's ago. A lot of people apparently read our opinion of the sale., and judging by the emails and phone calls we got afterward, many things went unpaid. Perhaps Eden will learn something, we'll keep an eye on their future sales and will, if it happens, let you know if they offer an auction with no copies.

If an Auction "Seems To Good To Be True"...well you all know that answer.
Note: This post is not an accusation of any criminal intent towards the auctioneer but is my personal opinion about the authenticity of the items being presented. The objects in question are not consistent in quality and content of known authentic examples. The previous owner labels and receipt accompanying numerous lots are in our opinion not authentic. Is one born every minute? Judging by the offerings coming up on September 9th in San Gabriel California we should all hope not.
The most amusing part of this is auction is, the cover lot itself sets the deceptive tone for the entire sale.
First A Glaring Problem on the Catalog Cover Itself.
Listed as Lot 9765 Bronze Tripod Zhou Ritual Food Vessel of the late Western Zhou period. Mega International even claims it to be from the Sackler Collection and was sold at Christie's, March 18th, 2009 lot 216.
The problem!, it's a lie and is not the same bronze, not even close. Yes, we dug out the Christie's example for your amusement and comparison.
Then, Another Incredible RARE Qianlong Multi Sided Vase?
(Where have we seen one of these before recently? Think "Garden of EDEN" Marietta GA) They just seem to be falling out the trees these days.
An Extremely RARE Ming Dragon Jar like the one sold at Christie's in 2016 (click the link to see a real one)
..will wonders never cease? The Real one sold for over $20 Million dollars.
Wow all in one sale, oh if it were only true.
The rest of this auction doesn't get any better. Here are a few more images.
Mega International Auctions More Chinese Fakes this September on the 9th, 2017, be very careful.
