As I've said elsewhere, I can't access JHT sales because he/she doesn't sell in Italy. But if someone posts links to their auctions, then I can access them. I invite everyone to post links to their sales when they are suspicious. It is a scandal that they purposely steal money from the unawares, considering that they are one of the most successful sellers on ebay. They have thousands of incomes per month and despite that they are so contemptibly dishonest. It is right to let people know who is honest and who is not.

If at every one of their sales the wrong items will be publicly revealed, may be they will behave less shamefully. And may be eBay too.

Thank you dear

I have not found a link to ebay there. Is it because they have nothing on sale by now or are them selling something on ebay? If so, can you post a link to one of their auctions?

On the site, under “Item for sale” page, there are some sold items. Some questionable pieces there, but there is only one single picture so it can not be said for sure. Except in some cases, like for example one of the last items of the Early Chinese Ceramic section, the SUPERB CHINESE SONG DYNASTY JUNYAO BUBBLE BOWL. Song?? With that electric blue? Not for sure.

Interesting looking plaque by master He Xuren.

Can't determine from just a couple of pictures as to whether this is genuine or a copy. Have asked for further details from said seller.

The style of the calligraphy looks on the surface to be consistent with his known works. However, these are now being copied of late in very high quality. So buyer beware etc.

BTW Peter had last week a republic period Cong vase also painted in the manner/style of He Xuren that sold for @ $6000. There was also another snow scene vase in this weeks newsletter that also sold for @ $6000.

A friend of mine who is in the know warned me about it stating the above etc.

Mark

Said He Xuren plaque dated 1934 is now in the upcoming Sotheby's sale NY Met. Museum of Art scheduled sale 14th September. Lot # 1560. Estimate $6000-8000.

Interesting that JHT had tried to sell said plaque twice on eBay. From memory the first time around it bought about 60k. The second time 20k.

Shall be interesting what it will sell for this time.

Just had a look at the right results.

Said plaque with estimate of $6000-8000 sold for only $4200.

IMO given the style, size and authentic nature of this plaque, the price was cheap compared to other known examples from the master. Sold for less than I offered. Go figure, that's auctions for you. You just never know.

Was just looking at this listing and shook my head. Nothing about this plaque is 18th century. Nor is the frame and stand Huanghuali wood.

Its amazing these conartists continue to get bidders - something just does not add up.

Do you remember when they used to have a Sotheby's or similar catalogue page that looked like whatever they were selling - ie not the same item, but something that looked similar.

How many times have you found a sotheby's listing for an item just like yours?    Its very rare - mainly because good items are not produced in mass - infact, if you can find the same thing, somewhere else, your one is probably not real.

Their con jobs seem to be a general mindset - ie if its real, there is a good chance it has undisclosed restoration.     If its stated to be a certain age, there is a good chance it was more recent.     If there is something wrong with it, there is a good chance they won't mention it.   If it has a sticker on it, there is a good chance it came from something else.   If its made of silver, there is a good chance it is way lighter in weight than it should be.

It seems as if their model is to misrepresent, and hope the buyer doesn't notice.    If caught, give a partial refund and more on.

One thing they are really good at, is selling to people with a gambler's mentality, who are hoping to get a great deal, and don't know real from fake.

There is a local cancer doctor, who moved here (Canada) from China.   He has a house full of Chinese fakes from this place.   He won't buy authentic examples from the local antique shops.     Strangely he seems to believe the legit antique dealers are trying to rip him off, whereas places like this ebay site are legitimate because the bidders set the price.    ie, he can't get a deal from an antique dealer, because they wouldn't sell him something for less than its fair value, whereas an auction site like this one, would do so.    Apparently this is a common belief amongst Chinese buyers.    Joannies seems to have known about this strange consumer approach, and taken full advantage, while legit antique dealers have been left scratching their heads - thinking this just does not add up.

As to the screen: the fakes are getting better. They almost got the faces right. But they look a bit mean and don’t have that friendly Qianlong expression.

@jiajiexue well it appears to be made from Metal!    Very poor quality casting (obviously).

That piece on the bottom is there to keep something inside - however given that the top of the base has holes in it to accept the top defeats the whole purpose.

Looks like a piece of junk made in India.

Hopefully you didn't pay much for it.
