let me initiate by posting a video from NPM:
anyone who has personally handled a piece of Jizhou leaf bowl with gilt painting?
That was very interesting, thank you. What an exquisite bowl and such an elegant shape. I would like to have heard more about how the foot rim was cut as I cannot imagine what a lathe would have looked like back then.
I shall do some research.😊
how the foot was cut is a big challenging questions, not only to connoiseurs but also many experts in China. There are two kinds of experts here: one who read books and then go to write books, and their experience are all from pics and words; the other who read books but go to the market to see real objects and compare them with excvated pieces from official archaeology and go back to revise book opinions. I belong to the latter.
Back to your question, i know how it is cut or the key tricks of it. But i would not publish it here openly. Otherwise, fakers will learn and improve their tech.
The trick is in the slogan:
"qi zu xiao you, xiao tai zhi you" (齐足削釉,削胎止釉)。
If you are interested, you can examine and study the Chinese slogan to try to understand.

No, but it was the only pic I had kept a copy of. I was bidding on this vase myself. Looking at the pics of the close-ups and the base it appeared really convincingly. I bought three Song-style ceramics from the same source including the black ding bowl. There was also celadon material available that to me looked very authentic but I didn't buy any of those.
let me provide u a one time free service on the pic of jizhou meiping u posted:it is fake.
making that answer needs more than ten years handling and feequent contact with jizhou and the fake market.
that is why i charge.
thanks
studying by books and pics is not only
a waste of time;it is misleading.
