Cool ivory carving of the 3 animals. I would have bought it too. Is it Japanese?

It was listed as Japanese. However I am not 100% sure. Here is the base.
They are 10.5cm each. Decorative mainly...could have been used for nic nacs on a dresser.

Your eight Kangxi blue and white dishes - it's always a pleasure to see Kangxi blue and white.
What is it I see there, apocryphal Chenghua reign marks for the most part, but also one for Xuande? Seeing the variety in this respect, on what are otherwise dishes essentially of the same type (design composition and layout, size, etc), has been instructive. Thank you for sharing your acquisition.

Congratulations from me MArk and I have a question. On your human figured objects, there is a lot of darkened areas. Are these hand darkened areas by the artist or natural color of the ivory?

Thank you for your interest and question.
As ivory is naturaly white these areas have been dyed dark brown, light brown, red and green in said areas.
This practice of color dye became very popular during the end of the Qing period through to the Republic period.
The tusk measures 59cm and weighs a massive 2.5 kilos. Back in the day before the world wide ban (circa 2018) these commanded huge prices.
I was actually fortunate to speak to the elderly owner who told me he bought it in HK for 20k aud ( there used to be a street there dedicated to ivory carvings) and was offered 12k back in 2012.
It actually passed in at auction mainly due i think to the increase of the start price from $1000 to $2000 overnight one day before the auction. Why there were no bids...i do not know as other auction houses here in Australia have sold similar tusks for good money. They may have thought that the darkened areas were not ivory or something completly different material.
His daughter told him to get rid of it or she would throw it away after he dies. I have heard of people doing this before.
Personally i love this carving and its the first full size one i have been able to buy at the right price.
