Hi Everyone,
I have been a Global Member subscriber for a few years now and it seems like the GM page here has been a bit neglected (the last ad-free video was posted in January) probably in favor of the Patron page (which I've never seen).
Are any of you Patreon members? How much more does it cost and do you see more video content there than here? If I cancel my GM subscription and switch to Patreon, do I lose my access to post here in the Forum?
I know Peter has talked a lot about these things but at least at the beginning he seemed reassuring to the GM subscribers. The home page has some information on this but not much.
Thank you,
Steve
How much is a Global Membership? He said today in a terrific video that Patreon is about 5.00 a month, and I certainly see why someone involved in the commercial side of Asian ceramics would join if there is a separate Help Identify This section for Patreon subsribers? I wonder if it is tax deductible as a business expense for those in the business? Something to check with the tax man? I know that the traffic on this line has been slow, which I thought was just natural attrition now that people are more active, but yes, I would be interested in knowing if there is a separate interaction line for Patreon subscribers? I can see where there would be a benefit to knowing how much other people received for a same or similar piece. I will never be on the commercial side of collecting, so not a winner on cost benefit analysis for me. However, extra videos that Peter mentioned today does sound attractive. Since there is a monthly charge, there will not be anyone new showing up there to just ask a question on Grandma's teacup, less traffic here means less publicity for the business in general, but that might also appeal to some on the commercial side of collecting, oh well, more to ponder, always fun.
Steve, I am not a member of either, but if I were a GM, I would switch to Patreon. I haven’t heard mention of another forum on there. I am sure we would know by now if that was the case.
Peter regularly posts additional videos and other interesting content on Patreon so that might be the one you'd prefer.
Hello Members
When I first started on this site its was because of Peter. Me I wish he would have stated this from the beginning. I read on here if you want a full appraisal on apiece it’s $15.00 this is about what all the other appraisal sites charge. Me I’m thinking about joining, John S
@john-steward Does it say on the site about Patreon that it includes free appraisals? He has not mentioned that on his videos, so as far as I know, an appraisal would cost them the same 15.00 that the rest of us pay, but if the 5.00 a month includes appraisals, then that indeed would make the site attractive, especially to those in the business and would seem to satisfy requirements of a business expense, once again, check with the tax accountant first. If I decide to join, I'll read the information first, as I'm sure those who have joined will have done.
@sharonp there is no discount given for the identification assistant service based on memberships. They are not related in that way as far as I know.
Hello All, i am a member on both sites, and i highly recommend the Patreon site! Besides, now you get BOTH for $5/month. I notice that i have not been charged any longer for the GM subscription! Peter provides SO much extra content there, like extra videos, including those of his own pieces, free downloads of all kinds of articles, plus a free downloadable weekly copy of Antiques Gazette. There is a comments section, and Peter sometimes interacts with people there. The GM is nice too, and you'll get both, but buying on LiveAuctioneers is so fraught with extra costs, in particular shipping and the buyer's premium of 30%, that even if one ends up with a "steal," it's usually not quite like that when it's all added up. Nevertheless, having both subscriptions is a real deal, even a steal, if you will 😁...I just love looking at his recommendations on the GM pages, for learning purposes. i rarely buy anything there however - way out of my price range.
@charlotte Good to know, Charlotte! I think I'll do that.
Was it hard to switch?
Thank you Steve. I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean by switch?
@charlotte Switch from GM to Patreon subscription.
@charlotte Good to know there is a separate comment section, answers my question too, thank you Charlotte.
