@lotusblack Thanks for sharing. Yes, yours is a much nicer drawing/much more even. But, my green is the color and possibly quality of smoothness as the vase Shine had. I held his colors up to my vase and the colors are extremely close if not the same for green, light green and purple at least. Funny, the vase "feels" right in my hands, but doesn't look quite right. Guess that's possible and probably means it's not right. Thanks again. PS I have seen some worse late Qing enamel work than even my vase. That is a possibility, right? As always, appreciate your thoughts.
I thought I would add some closeups and see if it would change anyone’s opinion on age. Love the mullet on the person to our right of the horse and I like the horse. I also
like the red on the screen behind the person seated, but not the dark red. Don’t like the mustardy yellow. How about that baby that looks like a little man?
One more thing I wanted to ask about. The foot rim is about 4 cm wide. The strange thing is that
the inside part of the rim is about 2 cm lower that the outside edge of the rim. So instead of trimming the rim evenly there’s an inward slant to the rim. I haven’t seen that before on any pieces I’ve had.
@centralpapottery I learned a trick from Tim awhile back that helps with dating late Qing because you are right that period manufactured odd balls. If you shine a light on the green enamel it will show a rainbow effect it’s the same look that you see when it’s raining and a puddle has oil and produces that same effect. I have proven this effect no modern green enamel produces this rainbow effect. Let me know if you see it in this area I marked.
I didn't really see the horse the first time. The attitude is good but his legs/hooves are a bit clumpy. The hands/fingers are not quite right, the colours are harsh and the faces are hard. However in that they are similar to some Nanking pieces, but I would have expected the overall look to be more like Vic's vase.
The foot rim looks better in the new pictures, the paint on the bottom wouldn't bother me, and I have seen pieces said to be around 1920/30 that have cross-looking faces (slanting straight Iines). It may be from then, a souvenir piece for visiting tourists or sailors. I am not sure exactly when it is from but it doesn’t shout late Qing.
Still as has been said, there were some variations in style especially in early 20th c so I could be wrong. It is always hard judging from photos. Do the test Brian mentioned and let's see what result you get.
I apologize, I meant the inside of the rim is 2 mm lower not cm. Does anyone know when they trimmed foot rims like that or is it a new phenomenon? I am not home, but will check on the oily effect
@lotusblack thanks Brian. Appreciate the tip. Meanwhile I googled rainbow effect on late Qing porcelain and found info on the Gotheborg site under Famille Verte. It says especially on overglaze blue a “halo effect “ can be seen. I’ll check it out when I get home… on the green and blue just in case.

@lotusblack oh my goodness. He even mentions like oil on water and a “rainbow” affect in describing the “halo” effect… unless I misread that.

@lotusblack ok, thanks. Much appreciated. I will learn something new today.:) That’s always good. I don’t believe I see it on mine, even though I’m trying hard to do so.
@centralpapottery You bring up an interesting point that different camera settings and different light will give the glaze a different appearance. The figure on the rug looks similar, as does the feet to Vic's jar.
@lotusblack wow, interesting. Thanks. And that rainbow is on all green leaves? Also, is the light shining on the whole vase or just the “rainbow” area?
